I was just thinking: when wwe left spike last year to go to USA (a move which hasn't really benefited them at all), they pretty much saved TNA and gave UFC a boost. I mean, with WWE gone, Spike began to really push UFC for the first time (now a major rival to wwe in the ppv market) and if not for WWE's move, they wouldn't have picked up TNA programming, and TNA might never had ended up with a tv slot and be finished by now.
You think this ever occured to Vince? If he wanted to off his two biggest competitors all he had to do was stay put.

Well nothing is ever Vince's fault, he probably blames Heyman or something. And UFC is more than just a rival to WWE on PPVs, they're f***ing owning WWE.

Uh... the move to USA has benefitted WWE plenty. It's less money, yeah, but their ratings have been higher and they've been given many new TV opportunities, such as SNME and ECW on Sci-Fi.

WWE has turned it's rating around since they left Spike. They're back to 2001 numbers last I heard.

SNME ratings have been crap. ECW on sci fi.....meh, spike maybe would have put an hour aside for that. And there's been a slight increase in raw ratings but nothing drastic. I think it was for a lot less money though. Like 40 million. But by that time Vince had alienated spike, so had to take what he could get.

I thought ratings went up a tiny bit, went back to normal, went up whenever Edge won the title, and dropped a tad and remained the same shortly after Cena got the belt back? That's the impression I got from not obsessively following the ratings.

I guess he was hoping they would go back to USA and start doing 5.0s again.

TNA is not a competitor to WWE at all. Their ratings are subpar, they're doing an awful job of selling PPVs, etc.
As for UFC,UFC lost a big lead in to Ultimate Fighter when RAW left. However, UF3 did amazingly well due to Shamrock/Ortiz. UF4 did terrible numbers, so I don't think that's anything good to speak about. However, UFC PPV numbers are comparable to WWE and that's a major deal.

Nah. Vince has gotten way more free publicity on USA. I've seen more WWE commercials on USA in a year than for the entire time they were on Spike/TNN. They also got the opportunity for a SNME (not USA/NBC's fault for a shitty show).
If WWE stayed, Spike still would have pushed UFC and TNA would have found another network.
It has helped them a bit, but WWE has also gained.

The way I remember it, WWE didn't leave for USA so much as Spike saying they didn't want a wrestling program.

All they are is the "alternative" to WWE in that if you're a "name" and don't want to work WWE then you'll have a job with TNA. Until TNA can prove to use their talent better (ie...not screwing up and blowing the load with "dream matches" in a quick three month span), get people to buy PPVs, get bigger ratings, go on the road more, etc....they're still just a step above indy level.
