LOTS OF RING OF HONOR NOTES ON THE COMPANY'S 2007 STRATEGY, FIFTH YEAR FESTIVAL, DVDS, BRYAN DANIELSON AND MORE
by Mike Johnson @ 6:08:00 PM on 1/2/2007
Former ROH champion Bryan Danielson is set to undergo the MRI on his bad shoulder next week, at which point it will be determined whether he'll need surgery or not.
There are currently no plans for Ring of Honor to break into new markets at this time. Instead, the current internal strategy for 2007 is to continue to build and grow crowds in their current markets.
Expect ROH to heavily promote that they have sold out their first two live events at New York City's Manhattan Center as a play on the way the WWF used to push sellouts at Madison Square Garden when that building was the center of their promotional universe. ROH returns to the venue Friday 2/16.
There was some consideration made to bringing back older names from Ring of Honor's past for special appearances at the Fifth Year Festival series, but the call was made to focus on the future of the company, not the past. Speaking of the Festival, the plan is for events that take place on one event to have a ripple effect on the events that follow it, which could mean lineup changes as championships change, feuds evolve, etc.
The storylines of ROH sister promotion Full Impact Pro will more closely follow ROH's storylines in 2007 but still remain a distinctly different product. As noted here before, the FIP title will be used as something of a secondary belt within ROH as a way to help push the FIP DVDs into the ROH synergy. Several FIP titles are scheduled to be released nationally via retail by Big Vision Entertainment.
ROH announcer Jared David is currently out as a commentator due to medical problems. Gabe Sapolsky filled in on a recent DVD and there's a chance Lenny Leonard may return if the company can touch base with him. If not, they may seek someone new to join the commentary team.
ROH's 11/24 and 11/25 events in Chicago are completed and are being duplicated on DVD. All of the company's December events are scheduled to go into the editing and post-production process within the next week.
ROH's next live event will be Friday 1/26 in Braintree, MA with ROH champion Homicide vs. Chris Hero, Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe in a Best of Three Falls Match, Colt Cabana & BJ Whitmer & Daizee Haze vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Brent Albright & Lacey in a six person No DQ tag, Davey Richards vs. the returning Rocky Romero and more to be announced featuring Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, the returning Jack Evans, Nigel McGuiness, Jimmy Rave, and more.
The 1/27 return to Edison, New Jersey will be headlined by ROH champion
Homicide vs. Samoa Joe, a six man tag with Austin Aries & Roderick Strong, & Jack Evans vs. Davey Richards & Delirious, & Shingo and a tag bout featuring Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Rocky Romero & Ricky Reyes.
