Do you think that Val's relationship to Edge plays a big role in why Val Venis is still employed ?

I doubt it. I think its more that he is extremely talented, still gets face pops and, can make others look great in the ring.

I assume Edge being one of the top heels has some strong pull in the company. It is like why are guys like Val kept and guys like Rodney Mack cut ?

He's still there because hes great for warming up the crowd. They can feel safe knowing that if hes the first guy they send out for the night, that it will start off well as he's known and will still get a pop.

I doubt very much that Edge is very instrumental in keeping Val around. I actually highly doubt that Edge has much backstage pull, as he's not married to the boss's daughter and isn't someone that is so over, that they can't possibly lose him. Don't get me wrong, he's a great superstar, but not in the Hogan, HHH, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker class, of being really powerful backstage.
I just assume Val has a job because he's a great worker, always gets a response, and will do the job for anyone without complaining. He was also very over during the attitude era, when he held the intercontinental and European titles, so a win over him is still something of an accomplishment. That is the same reason they keep guys like Viscera, Scotty 2 Hotty, Funaki, and Stevie. Viscera is the token hoss who always loses, Scotty always gets a good response and has been around for a while. I want to say since like 1994 in some capacity, as I remember seeing him in dark matches around then. We're from the same area in Maine, so he would always get a match when he was just starting, usually to lose to a guy like Owen or a young HHH. Funaki has a job because he brings a cruiserweight guy who can team with Scotty and I assume he is well liked backstage. Stevie has a job because he is an ECW original who will job and also brings the hardcore experience.
They have all held titles at one point or another, and are always over.

Are they still friends, since Edge divorced Val's sister years ago?

Are they still friends, since Edge divorced Val's sister years ago? Didn't he cheat on her, no less?

Are they still friends, since Edge divorced Val's sister years ago? According to Edge's book they are. Val's sister couldn't handle Edge traveling all the time so they split and stayed friends. Val understood and supported them both.

Solid, reliable worker, well-liked backstage, always willing to sell and job, not fussed about getting pushed or holding a belt, crowd likes him, very very solid early-mid carder. What's not to like about the guy.
There are a certain few guys who WWE will keep around to reward them for their loyalty and hard work over the years. I know, I know, sounds completely out of character for WWE but its the truth.
Some of those long serving guys have gained respect and therefore career security from WWE, but I can't see the likes of Orton or RVD ever getting this.

What's not to like about the guy. Summed it up perfectly there. Val is this generations Tito Santana. He should be this generation's Owen Hart (solid upper-midcarder, not a joke about death).
