Cuz I think the guy deserves one. One of my earliest memories is seeing him turn on Hogan, and HATING him because of it. Paul was a guy who just looked like he could legit destroy you, his piledriver was absolutely brutal, and during his battles with Hulk it looked like he might take the title off of him at any possible moment. The guy was an intense badass onscreen when there was still so much in the way of cartoony characters. It's a shame his neck was injured, as I've always thought he never got an opportunity to live up to his full potential; and I think he tends to get overlooked as one of the greats of the past a good amount of the time. I was glad to see his HOF induction. Any other Mr. 1derful fans 'round here?

Allegedly, he also put the boots to Big Van Vader, but I stand by my belief that Vader just didn't want to piss off the guys backstage even more by fighting back and thus took the beating like a man.

What good would that have done if they fired him after it? Actually he put the shower shoes to Vader if you want to get technical about it,lol. One of my favorites to never get a title in WWF, had a sick piledriver as a finisher and looked like he could whip your ass in a heartbeat.

Well, I first read the story on a Vader fan site, so I might be a bit biased. There has to be more to the story. Vader doesn't strike me as a man to take a beating and not respond. He got his eye knocked out by Stan Hansen and kept motoring, for God's sake.

I believe it started at a WCW Saturday Night taping backstage where they were to do an interview together and Vader kept brushing Paul off like he was nothing then they exchanged words and then went at it. Hell, to me it doesn't even seem believable on paper, but things like that happen in life.

Anyway, he was the first heel I marked for as a kid, and I loved Pretty Wonderful. One of the best showmen of the 80's.

If it doesn't take anything away from Vader for me, I have to hand it to Orndorff for sticking in there with him.

He beat the crap out of Vader while wearing sandals.
Never seen much of him, but he has my respect.

What happened between Vader and Paul Orndorff? In 1995 Vader got into a fight with WCW road agent Paul Orndorff about booking I believe. Paul took Vader down and punched him with his one good arm until it was broken up by other WCW workers. Vader went to WWF right after the incident and WCW used the fight saying how much tougher WCW wrestlers were.
Credit Wrestleview
Considering Orndorff had only 1 good arm i think that solidifies how tough the man was.

I thought it was his crap arm since that was apparently stronger than his good arm since he worked it like twice as hard.

IMO, Orndorff was due a WWF title run but thanks to booking and Hogan, he never got it.
One of the best heels of the 80s.
Too bad he didn't get his neck injury fixed. Seeing Orndorff's arm atrophied like that on the Benoit DVD was sick.

I too appreciate Mr. Wonderful-any man who wrestles through an arm injury to the point that it's as messed up looking as his, because he didn't wanna take time off to get it taken care of because business was so hot-that's Dedication! I'm sincere about this, I wouldn't have held it against him if he took time off, but there is no doubt of his dedication to his profession

The Orndorff/Vader thing was nicely discussed by Heenan and Cornette in Vol. 2 of their ROH series when discussing who are legit the toughest dudes they have ever known in the business (and out of the two, only Paul was brought up at that moment by both guys).
Ordorff was beyond decent, I guess. He severely lacked in the selling department, so that wasn't cool. But other than that, no complaints about the dude.

The way I have always heard the story Vader shoved Paul down with one hand, then Paul responded with a punch from his bad arm that dizzied Vader, letting Paul take him down and start kicking at his face with his sandals. There is also another old story that says that Paul and Tony Atlas went at it at a truckstop one after Atlas repeatedly smartmouthed Paul;supposedly Paul tackled Atlas and bit part of his ear off before Tommy Rich and B.Brian Blair(ho were also in the car) got them apart and took Atlas to the hospital to get his ear fixed.
Anyway,Paul was one of those guys in the vein of Rick Rude;he had tremendously believable arrogance and legitimate toughness;he also had what I consider to this day to be the best Piledriver ever. His work with Hogan was excellent(esp. considering they were both mostly brawlers) but IMO they had him flip flopp from face/heel a little too much(not by today's standards but certainly for that era) and in the long run it hurt him;his best stuff was probably in GCW.
