Those SOB's at MIT have finally found a way to make us WPI people jealous.

Do they teach you how to fall off a twenty foot ladder? Surprisingly not, unless you have taken Physics IV.

This is actually pretty cool, something I would love to attend if my school ever did it. I get the feeling that you'll see Matt Striker and Chris Nowinski as speakers eventually.

Can you take this as a major? I'm considering applying just for this.

does anyone know if they have a syllabus for the class posted anywhere? I know MIT is really good with giving them free online for most of their classes

well, here's the class blog: mitcmsprowrestling.blogspot.com/they have students write on it, and if you read the instructor's posts (his name is Sam), there is some clues to what they read and watch, I still want to find a syllabus

This class watched Flair/Steamboat and discussed it.
Imagine us in that class:
Teacher: So that was WrestleMania 2000
Us: No more McMahons! I am sick of seeing the McMahons! HHH is burying the entire roster! He buried CM Punk! Cena sucks! Everything sucks!
Teacher: Somebodys cranky...
Then the teacher would put on Ted DiBiase's theme song and we'd all take a nice nap for the rest of class

There are quite a few academic works on pro wrestling. Most pretty negative, going on and on about wrestling is misogynist and homophobic and classist and racist and yatta yatta, but there is also some research about how it is a counterintuitive form of male soap opera, etc. Some of the books that are fairly even handed can be really neat to read, especially when they get into what wrestling moves symbolize, how it's all connected to ancient mythology, good stuff like that.

I am so jealous! I want to take this class. If my sister's tiny private college can offer an entire course dedicated to Star Trek, why can't mine offer a course dedicated to wrestling?
