Weekly Pro is reporting that Simon Inoki has resigned as President of New Japan Pro Wrestling. The resignation will be tendered to the board of director at New Japan's stockholders meeting in April, reports Zach Arnold.
We reported earlier that Antonio Inoki was forming a new promotion called IGF (Inoki Gnome Federation), with the first show on 6/26. There is speculation the resignation and the formation of the IGF could be related.

Intreasting news. This might be the begining of the end on New Japan. They have had trouble lately and might be losing there top TV time and with Simon Inoki leaving and going to IGF it seems like he would be able to get some talent to follow and know this could change things in Japan.

Whats IGF going to be about? MMA, which Inoki seems so interested in? Antonio Inoki's IGF by Stuart - 08 Mar 2007 Antonio Inoki formally announced yesterday what he outlined recently, that he is starting a new promotion tentatively called IGF (Inoki Genome Federation). Normally, this wouldn't be of great interest to New Japan fans, but apparently this is going to be a professional wrestling group. Unlike the abandoned Inoki Genome project, which had half of pro wrestling's top stars on the original list of participants, Inoki avoided announcing who would be involved, but said the debut show will take place at a big building in Tokyo this June. Inoki plans to invite "outstanding wrestlers from across the world" to compete, including New Japan stars. Considering Yuke's owns rights to Inoki's likeness, they presumably have given the "OK" for this. It sounds like this would be one of those groups that run shows every so often, like WRESTLE-1, although the full blueprint of IGF is still unclear. Whether it will be directly linked to New Japan (like using New Japan wrestlers as its top native stars) is yet another question. What is known is that Inoki seems to have secured a major sponsor for it, which will allow him to run these big buildings even if attendances are poor (ala UFO). -http://www.puroresufan.com/ I don't know it seems wrestling based but I guess more like WRESTLE-1 so it seems like it wont be competiton for NJPW although there have been many news stories of financial difficulties so I wonder if IGF will become the replacement for NJPW? It's very intreasting. Too vauge to really judge what will happen though as it seems.

It's OK. Words are like bullets, and they pass through me. Don't bullets kill? Only if you're Shawn Michaels.
