From their Myspace bulletin tubes thingy:
You'd think everyone in the CHIKARA offices was just given their very own pony from the level excitement buzzing after this match announcement was sent to us this morning. Once again in a CHIKARA ring, it will Mike Quackenbush going one-on-one with "Double C" himself, Claudio Castagnoli. These two have traded wins back and forth in matches that seemingly can't be topped, only to have the two men pull out something even more amazing in their next match.
And to make the stakes even higher - this is CHIKARA's qualifier for the prestigous King of Europe Cup! What is King of Europe Cup exactly ? It's a two-night, 16-man tournament in Liverpool featuring one representative from each of the 16 top independent promotions in the world right now, including, obviously, us here at CHIKARA. To give you an idea of how big this tournament is, here are the entrants are confirmed thus far:
- Nigel McGuiness (Ring of Honor)
- Chris Hero (Combat Zone Wrestling)
- Matt Sydal (IWA Mid South)
- Pac (IPW:UK)
- Davey Richards (Pro Wrestling Guerilla)
- Roderick Strong (Full Impact Pro)
- El Generico (International Wrestling Syndicate)
- Martin Stone (Real Quality Wrestling)
And that's before we even have representatives from the likes of Dragon Gate, Pro Wrestling NOAH, WXW and TNA involved in the mix. To say this is big oppurtunity for the winner of the CHIKARA qualifier is a tremendous understatement. Both competitors are gnashing at the bit to get into this tournament. Quackenbush, as one of CHIKARA's founders, is extremely passionate about the possibility of representing the company in the Cup, and Castagnoli feels that this tournament goes beyond promotional bragging rights, as he wants to prove he is not only the best wrestler in Europe, but the world as well.
What's going to prove interesting in this matchup, as opposed to their previous encounters, is the fact these two men came to something of an uneasy truce at our show BRICK this past November, when Quack made the save for Claudio after he was violently ejected from the Kings of Wrestling. With this much riding on the line, can that truce survive this match, or will we quickly find ourselves back in the same bitter rivalry that has driven their previous encounters ?
To find out, you're going to need to haul your butt out Hellertown, PA for our show "Time Will Prove Everything" on Saturday night March 24th. In addition to this match, which in all honesty is worth the $15 alone, you'll see the return of Quack and Claudio's mutual nemesis, Chris Hero, as he takes on Ricochet, plus 6 other first-class CHIKARA contests. Tickets are on-sale now at CHIKARAPRO.com. We hope to see you there, and we hope to see you back here next week as we start rolling out more big matches for the March shows.
PS - If you've never seen Quack/Castagnoli before - we HIGHLY suggest purchasing our 2005 show, Negative Balance as well as this past year's edition of the Ted Petty Invitational Tournament, hosted by our good friends at IWA Mid-South. Not only are the Quackenbush/Castagnoli matches unbelievable, but the rest of the shows are top-to-bottom great wrestling. Trust us, you'll be thanking us later.
