Apparently Lawler was asked who he would like to induct him at the ceremony, he said Lance Russel. Eventually, Kevin Dunn had to talk him out of that choice because nobody knows who Lance Russel (Memphis wrestling announcer) is. (credit: WrestleView)
Can't blame them for putting the brakes on that. Did any of you outside of Memphis know who the hell he was?

I know who Lance is. He is easily the second best announcer in Wrestling history and played a huge part in King's career. Just stupid. They better have Bob Zamuda (sp) as Tony Clifton inducting him now or do not enough people know about that either.

I don't blame Johnny Ace. If I'm were the higher ups of WWE trying to promote the HOF, I wouldn't want him to do the induction either.

You mean I should know, and care, about a guy that announced in shows that, not only could never reach me via television/published material, but would never really air, as there would be more of an emphasis on local wrestling shows in those times rather than shows imported from another country? For some reason, I think the conversation was no one knows WHERE Lance Russell is. I find it hard to believe that no one in the company knows who he is.

I'm sure everyone's HEARD of Lance Russel, but I agree that's he's not a big enough name for the HOF gig. It'll be either Jimmy Hart or Jim Ross.

Wait, no one would know who Lance Russel is outside of Memphis? Then why the hell woudl they let Greg Gagne induct his dad? Did anyone who didn't grow up watching AWA know who he was? Moreover, did anyone who DID grow up watching AWA care about Greggles? I sure as hell didn't, but I had to listen to his induction anyway.
Also, I'd like to second the Tony Clifton run in for the Lawler induction. Our luck, though, it'll be the return of Isaac Yankem DDS or somethng, seeing as how they haven't made fun of Glenn Jacobs yet this week.
