The World Heavyweight Championship that has recently been carried by such greats as Batista, Chris Benoit and Triple H got its start in WWE back in 2002. But its prestigious lineage can actually be traced back all the way to George Hackenschmidt and 1904. For years, it was known as the NWA Championship; then when WCW pulled out of the NWA in the early 1990s, Ric Flair was recognized as the first-ever WCW Champion. Since that time, top names such as Hulk Hogan, Ron Simmons and Bret Hart carried the championship prior to WCW's demise.

Wow this statement is very powerful that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship goes back to 1904 with George Hackenschmidt. I don't even think TNA has made that claim with there title.
So that got me to thinking if that is true than does this mean that the World Heavyweight Championship goes back that far than dosen't it make it more prestigous than the WWE Title?
I feel it is an intreasting question and if you give the NWA/WCW title history it could but than NWA would probaly sue WWE so not a good idea. But than Vince could buy the NWA anyway.
I hate that WWE can make this claim since we all know WWE title only goes back to 1963 and the company has only been around sine the fifties. To me it's stupid that they can do that!
To me you can trace the WWE World Heavyweight Title back to 1991 I have no problem with that. But when you start saying that Geroge Hackenschmidt, Orville Brown, and Lou Threz were WWE World Heavyweight Champions, than you got a problem with me.

I say maybe. I dont know. I like to think theres a belt out there that still is considered the same title that those greats from 1904 held.

Well actually WCW made the big gold belt into the wcw international title well after the NWA took it's WORLD HEAVY WIEGHT TITLE back so ergo the wcw world title is only about 20 years old and the NWA heavy weight title in TNA goes back to the 30's. The NWA belt Hackenschmit won was from the national wrestling association not the national wrestling alliance that started in the 30's ala Lou Thez

The NWA Championship is definately the most prestigious. If you look at it, every major title dates back to 1904 (WWE, AWA, WCW, ECW), because they grew from the NWA Championship. It's just that the design has primarily stayed the same for the World Heavyweight Championship that is held by Batista.
