To channel my inner-Schiavone (and really, don't we all have one? Along with an inner-Jesse or Bobby the Brain to yell at it?), I have to question what REALLY WAS the greatest night in the history of our sport?
Not just for historical significance, although that should be probably the biggest consideration, but just an overall great night for Professional Wrestling (or, as it were, Sports Entertainment).

The "Greatest nights in the history of our sport", from a historical perspective (in no particular order):
The night Hogan won the belt. It launched Hulkamania and was the starting point for the 80's wrestling boom.
Wrestlemania 3: Considered by many to be the greatest PPV of all time.
The formation of the NWO: The start of what is considered one of the greatest wrestling angles in History.
Vince announces purchase of WCW, has crossover broadcasts of Raw/Nitro: For obvious reasons.
The Montreal Screwjob: The public's first "real" look into wrestling's backstage world. The start of the "Mr. McMahon" character, the unofficial launch of the "attitude" era.
"Mick Foley is going to win 'their' world championship": A significant turning point in the Monday Night Wars.
King of the ring 96: One ad-libbed catch phrase launches Steve Austin into superstardom.

In terms of historical significance, i'd say Montreal screwjob. It was just the beginning of the peak of WWE's popularity. A newly turned heel McMahon would go on to feud with the company's next top star, Steve Austin.
In terms of greatest show, i'd def say WM X7. Just a solid show with some incredible matches...TLC, HHH vs Taker, Rock vs Austin, Angle vs Benoit.

Wrestlemania X7 will always be, in my opinion, the greatest pay-per-view of all-time. Even the stuff that shouldn't have been good (women's title match, Gimmick Battle Royale) was good for what it was.
