I know I do, but do you think Vince wonders about the "what-ifs" with people he fired/didn't renew/didn't pick up when they turn up dead?
I've noticed something with some guys that have recently died from ODs, and I think a lot of them would still be alive today if Vince kept them on payroll. Allow me to explain...
Hawk - Last seen on WWE TV in the summer of 2002 to job to Kane and RVD. In what was probably the last great tag match I've seen the WWE pull off. If I'm not mistaken, this was a try-out match, in which Vince decided not to pick up LoD. A few months later, Hawk ODs and is dead.
Curt Hennig - Came back for a brief run in 2002 as well. Of course, was released after he wrestled Brock on the "plane ride from Hell". Few months later, ODed.
Mike Awesome - Last seen at ONS 2005. Rumored to be going to the new ECW, until claims came about that he was to dominate....and then put over Show in a matter of seconds. A long while after, he hangs himself.
Now, if you were Vince, would you feel like you have these people's souls staining your hands everyday? I think I would, if these guys were employed by WWE I think they'd still be alive. Of course, you can point to Eddie Guerrero for a counterpoint, but I would like to think that the cases I've stated above would not have happened had these men been employed by Vince. I think there are others too, but I can't think of them at the moment.
The Hawk one makes me wonder the most. If Vince did pick up LoD back in 2002, would he have overdosed? Wasn't he documented to be depressed last he seen?
If these guys had jobs, I think it would have taken their minds away from the thoughts of suicide or drugs, or whatever. Just my two cents. And I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
