Regarding the debate of whether Steve Austin or Hulk Hogan was a bigger draw for WWE, Jim Ross, who is very familiar with WWE’s payroll over the years, wrote in his blog: "Who out drew who? Who had the biggest year ever for a wrestler in the WWE? We get this question a great deal. Steve Austin had by far the biggest single year ever and had several huge money making years to go along with that one. Hogan may have had more years on top as he was in a main event position longer than Austin, but no one in WWE history ever surpassed Steve's single season earnings record. For the good of the business, I hope someone does some day"

I agree people really forget how huge Austin was in 1998-1999 it was incredible! No one can draw like that, nobody! Someone will probaly outdraw Austin but I doubt it will be Cena. But it's amazing people try to say that Hogan outdrew Austin is not really true because Austin had tougher competition(The Rock, Undertaker, Mankind) and in Hogans best year he could nout out draw Austin in his best year. Honestly if Austin stayed healthy he would have been a huge draw for awhile.

I wouldn't doubt it, seemed like every other person you passed on the street back then was wearing an Austin t-shirt.

It does make sense. Austin was huge.
And of course this comes out when they're on the outs with Hogan. JR is the company cheerleader.

I have a feeling Hogan next week will go on the radio and say he outdrew Jesus. That egotistical bastard!

He says Austin outdrew Hogan for one year.
Good for him.
Hogan was on top from 1985-1992 in the WWF, and I'm sure he did just fine for himself practically running WCW.

Not necessarily. He said "single season earnings", meaning that Austin holds the record for making the most money in the time span of one single year. It was probably in 1998, when the economy is totally different than in 1988. Austin sold more T-shirts than Hogan in that frame of a year, that's where the money came from, but I think thats It, and I say 6that Hogan is the bigger draw overall considering their respective time periods.
If you ask 10 random people who Hogan is and who Austin is, more know Hogan.

Austin has had more merchandise than almost anyone except maybe KISS LOL - and Gene Simmons would like to put more space in there by selling KISS brand oxygen to the entire planet.

OKay....fine.
But while we're at it, lets also compare how many pay per views Hogan was able to be on per year (4 or 5) and weekly wrestling TV shows Hogan was able to make appearances on during prime time television during his era.
You can say Austin outdrew Hogan all you want, but the fact is that they were two completely different eras of wrestling, so its hard to really compare the two. Austin had way more TV exposure, was on during prime time, and had way more pay per views to make money on. Austin was on TV in a main event slot every Monday Night (leeching off of that Monday Night Football crowd during football season) and headlined almost double the amount of pay per views per year that Hogan was able to appear on. He also had the benefit of being able to draw off of a whole other competing wrestling TV show (Nitro). Hogan made his appearnce Sunday mornings, and wasn't even on TV all that much.

Plus also... it's impossible to tell who draws and who doesn't.

I love how quick the Hulkamaniacs come to the aid of their orange hero. Hogan himself could come out and say someone outdrew him, and they would tell Hogan he was wrong about it. Not that Hogan would ever do that, as I am sure he would tell us that Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band outsold thriller if we asked him.

You could take out Hogan's name and put any wrestler and you'd have his fan following doing that. There are plenty of Rock, Austin, HBK, HHH, etc. fans here, and they come to the aid of their fave wrestler in a lot of discussions, is that bad?

Just like the Bret Hart fans will tell you Shawn Michaels is degenerate scum, and CM Punk fans cry if it takes anything less than a stealth bomber, Godzilla, Mr. T and a quantum deconstructer combined to give him a pinfall loss. Your point?

I, for one, rather enjoy the time periods between the 'froth at the mouth' threads. They never end well and no one ever really gets convinced of anything.
