I mean, he was the Ringmaster, and something about him losing the Million Dollar Belt on purpose, then I forget.
When did they start calling him 'Stone Cold'?

I think on a Raw match or Superstars match. There was no dramatic angle, just one day he was Ringmaster, the next Stone Cold. It was during that Savio Vega angle.

I knew that they were trying to come up with a nickname and it was his wife at the time who coined the "Stone Cold" phrase, but I don't have a clue how it was implemented.

Around mid '96. Somewhere near the King of the Ring.

Actually, I remember hearing this story. I believe it was that his wife, who is British, told Austin to come drink his tea before it got "stone cold." Voila! New nickname.

Yeah I seem to remember him being called Stone Cole Steve Austin at WM XII however he still was alot like the Ringmaster gimmick but he was starting to slowly becoming that gimmick before that and the Savio Vega stuff seemed to bring out Stone Cold out and when Dibiase left he became full blown out Stone Cold, although he still used the Million Dollar Dream. But really he truely became the Stone Cold we all know at King of the Ring.

It was sometime in Feb. of 1996. I remember leading up to the name change, the commentators would say stuff about his eyes, and how he had a "stone cold stare" or something like that when he would be standing there while DiBiase was talking.
Eventually he just came out one week and was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

Even in his first match, previous to RR '96 (against Matt Hardy), Vince would say, this man is Stone Cold, etc.

So if Mrs Austin had only just made the tea, and was looking in the right the right direction at the time, we could have had Teabag Steve Austin. Hmmmm. Smoking teapot belt anyone?

I believe "Stone Cold" started when he shaved his flat-top and went with the goatee. I remember he was Stone Cold when he was the Million Dollar Champion at WrestleMania XII.

The earliest I remember is WM 12 and OWW isn't accurate on any of this for some reason.
