Yeah... it has been a while since WWE plucked someone out of one of the legit sports. Not having looked at the OVW and DSW rosters, they have Lashley who was a champ amateur wrestler. He couldn't have been signed that long ago.

Yeah... it has been a while since WWE plucked someone out of one of the legit sports. Brown, Monty. I mean someone who hasn't wrestled before signing with WWE. Like Kurt Angle or Brock Lesnar ...or Mark Henry. Lashley was signed in 2003. There could be some other guy like that in developmental. Oleg Prudius is the last guy like this they signed.

Step in the right direction at least...although they really need to look at the indy's more than at body building competitions like they do sometimes....

There are definitely positives to this.
Some of the best wrestlers in wrestling history have been football players, and with the success of Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and the World's Greatest Tag Team, amateur wrestlers are probably on the most wanted list for the WWE right now.

Jake Hager... in oVW he's billed as an All American From Oklahoma University... Yeah, I remeber JR riding the kids jock since he's a Sooner. He signed sometime in late 05 - early 06. It was one of JR's last talent recomendations.

I saw Hager on the latest episode of OVW. Didn't seem very impressive, though he's apparently only been (pro) wrestling for like 5 months or so, hopefully he'll get real good. His look is pretty bland too, bordering on dorky.

Hager, I actually was somewhat of impressed. Sure he was green as hell way more so than even Daniel Rodimer but I see some definite potential. I love his finisher the Hagernizer(Moss Covered Three Handled Family Credenza). I see a good future with him, but they need to give him a real gimmick because the gifted athelete from Oklahoma will not work, I'm not sure what but something because I feel he could be a star.

why the hell are they hiring someone on how "athletic" they are? hire someone based on how good they are at wrestling. and anyway, they have one of the most athletic people in the world in shelton benjamin, and he's gathering dust on sunday night heat. how athletic was mick foley? how athletic was roddy piper? how athletic was jake the snake? how athletic was stone cold steve austin? yeah, they were in good shape, but these lot werent from "legitimate athletic backgrounds".
I'M PISSED NOW!

I think the WWE is incredibly keen on getting James Laurinatis into the company, almost to the point that they'd rather he not have a pro football career. I've already seen an interview where it was stated that when James' career is done, he has an open invitation to the WWE. He's a talented, athletic kid with a great pedigree, but sometimes I wonder if his being so coveted by WWE has as much to do with his uncle being the head of talent relations as it does with his skills. And if it didn't, he'd have that sword hanging over his ehad his entire career.
And as much as it'd be cool to see more pure athletes in the sport, the business has not had a good track record with guys like that. Goldberg is a prime example of that. Lesnar at least came up through the amateur wrestling ranks, and had a great run in OVW to prime him for the big time.

Yeah.. hire sports athletes.. It's not like there are thousands of people in the indys who'd take the job or nothing.

I would presume that a wrestling company should aim to hire, you know, wrestlers. Maybe a Idea.
