Don't forget one thing about who jobbed to who...the feud was expected to end at Wrestlemania XIV with Bret jobbing to Austin and Austin winning the title...don't tell me that if that happened it would not have been THE greatest feud of all time!! This would have made it the top feud just about of all time. Think about it: It started off as Stone Cold going after Bret to prove that he wasn't all he said he was. Then, in match after match, they beat the hell out of each other, but Austin just can't get the win. Then WM 13. The epic match. Then Bret takes a leave, while Austin feuds with Owen. Say Austin doesn't get hurt, and beats Owen cleanly, while Bret beats 'Taker with the Michaels missed chair shot. Michaels feuds with 'Taker. Bret/Bulldog feud with Patriot/Vader. Austin feuds with Owen. Badd Blood goes the same, with Austin fighting Owen with a Rock/Nation run-in. Survivior Series has Hart/Michaels classic match. (No screw job, the Hart Foundation stays together). Austin vs. Rock IC title, Austin drops the IC title to Rock when Owen interferes. Royal Rumble sees Austin win the Rumble. Michaels/Taker have the Casket match. Hart doesn't compete, instead watching the evening's affairs from the box with the Hart Foundation and Mike Tyson. The No Way Out main event sees Bret and Owen Hart take on Stone Cold and Triple H (now a face), and WrestleMania XIV is the culmination: Austin's first victory over Bret and he wins the World Title.

All of it perfect, except I would have replaced face HHH (I think they could hace kept DX with Shawn and hunter even then) by someone else (who, I have no clue right now, someone who has a history with Bret, like Lawler...but not Lawler for obvious reasons!)

While it would have been nice to have the WWE Championship on the line for their Wrestlemania match, I kinda feel it's absense added to the intensity of the match they did have.
Basically, anyone can have a match for the championship. Both men want it so much, they fight their ass off for it. But in the case of what did happen, it was all about two guys who hated each other so much, that they wanted to destroy each other. And that helped with the double turn.
If Hart turned because he couldn't win the title, well, yawn. But Hart turning because, in his mind, the fans turned against him? That's much better with greater possibilities for character development and storyline advancement.

Well, I was thinking Shamrock, but he was feuding with Rock for the IC title...maybe Vader or Patriot, but that's kinda blah...

The Mania one's the greatest match of all time, IMO

WM 13, but survivor series 1996 has been overshadowed and it was a great match in its own right and owned over most of 1996.

Austin never needed to beat Bret. As I said on page 1, Bret put him over strongly without losing to him. It's possible to do that, but it's far more rare these days. Often fans (and some bookers) think that wins are the most important thing in wrestling--they're not. A wrestler can gain a victory without being "put over," and I'm sure people can name some examples of that.
A wrestler is put over when he looks better after a match in the eyes of the fans than he did coming in. Bret was great at making other guys look good even when he beat them. Remember when Bret beat Diesel with a roll-up after being dominated for most the match? Who looked better there? It was Diesel. With Austin and Bret it's the same thing. Although, Bret losing to Austin at WrestleMania XIV would've been the perfect conclusion to the feud. Sadly, that didn't happen.

13 without a doubt.
Happens to be one of my all time favorite PPVs. Stellar card from beginning to end.
