I'm curious to know.
Which wrestlers who wrestled for Vince Mcmahon can claim that he left with his head high?
The first name that comes to my mind is Bruno Sammartino... but the guy didn't wrestle for a long period of time for Vince Jr. And back then they were not on the road as much because they were wrestling per territories.

Definitely Storm and Jericho. The Rock. Dean Malenko (even though he still works for WWE).

I remind you that last time we saw jericho in a WWE ring, he was crying and pleading to keep his job...I don't call it a great departure!! More humiliating.
To the general marks that don't know about backstage stuff, it's not very good.

And to answer the question, I would say that if Michaels had not come back in 2002, he would have just about the best departure you can dream of...Last match, the WWF champion, main event of Wrestlemania, great match that enter in history (first reign of Steve Austin) and he gets to drop the belt to the next generation superstar.....I mean, what can you ask more than that!?

How can anyone hold their head high after working for Vince?? The part where you get paid well, get to work with most of the biggest names in wrestling, and amass more fame than you could ever hopt to achieve elsewhere. Sorry for shooting you down, but hey, that's the internetz.

Jericho, Trish, Slaughter, Foley (Save for the sad comeback attempt at WM 2000), Hogan I'm sure, Terry Funk if he's really left!

Sorry for shooting you down, but hey, that's the internetz. What about the fact to get no say whatsoever in the things you do? Or the fact you can go from being the next best thing to being absolutely nobody at the drop of a hat? What about the fact you're almost certain to get booked in some asinine angle in your stay there? What about the fact you can be fired in an instant? What about all the backstage politicing and asskissing? What about having to look at Michael PS Hayes?

Rick Martel seemed to get out pretty well..I don't remember exactly the end but I don't remember anything hugely bad happening to him.

The Rock, Jericho, Austin. I agree with the Rock 100% Jericho will come back so he doesn't count Austin didn't left with his head high IMO, everybody knows that he is a wife beater and his neck is a mess

That's not entirely true. Due to the territory system, most promotions at the time held cards not only 5-6 days a week, but often had 2 cards in one day certain days. The territories may have been smaller, but that is pretty much negated by the fact that they had to drive themselves everywhere, instead of flying. It was a much more brutal schedule than it is now.

Foley? are you serious? he had so many injuries from wrestling that it is scary. He had to prostitute his body to become famous. and Trish didn't have the same schedule that a male wrestler can have so I don't think that she really counts. Divas have a lighter schedule.

And stupid as this sounds, Warrior would probably count. He left on his own terms and even with the WCW stint, he's never had to resort to coming back. While he's done some incredibly wtf things since, he walked his own ground on the way out.
