'WWE Classics' - July 11 episode
Written: July 10, 2007
This week's edition of WWE Presents Madison Square Garden Classics airs at 8 p.m. ET on the MSG Network Wednesday.
WWE Hall of Fame announcer “Mean” Gene Okerlund hosts the show. This two-hour edition includes six memorable classics from the World’s Most Famous Arena, featuring:
From January 21, 1985:
Andre the Giant vs. Ken Patera Jimmy Snuka & Junkyard Dog vs. Roddy Piper & Cowboy Bob Orton in a Texas Tornado Match Greg Valentine vs. Tito Santana for the Intercontinental Championship
From April 24, 1989:
Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect Hulk Hogan vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage for the WWE Championship
Check your local TV/satellite listings for more information on where you can view WWE Presents Madison Square Garden Classics.
This will be an exciting evening for me because April 24, 1989 was my first ever live wrestling event and I haven't seen any of these matches since that night. So join us tomorrow at 8pm for everyone's favorite show. And remember, as always, NO SPOILERS.

Looking forward to the first one as I've not seen this particular Santana/Valentine match and I liked the Texas Tornado match as well, though it was supposed to be Tonga Kid in there, but I think he got fired before that match.

I'm not sure which Valentine/Santana match this is but they always had good ones. You should really enjoy that show. As far as the 2nd hour goes, does anyone know the reason for the Perfect vs Hart feud at the time. I remember watching them fight and wondering why Bret was fighting solo again because the Hart Foundation was back together.

It wasn't a feud really, they just paired the 2 up at house shows around the country. I remember seeing a match from the Boston Gardens around that time period between the two.

There's a rumor I read once that Bret challenged Perfect during a backstage interview at WM5 but that's definitely not on my copy of the show so I don't know if it even happened.

That didn't happen. I just did some research and it appears that shortly after WM, Bret and Jim had a few singles squash matches on the Wrestling Challenge & Superstar tapings. Bret went on the house circuit against Mr. Perfect while Neidhart spent a few months losing to The Barbarian, the Warlord, and Dino Bravo.

I have the Original PPV version of WM5, and I think on second thought maybe Hennig or Hart made a slight mention about the other, but I could be wrong. I'd have to watch it again just to be sure. But after that, there wasn't much of a feud as the following month, the Harts were back in tag team competition.

I'll be sure to have some MSG Fun Facts during the 2nd show. Just little things that I remember from that night

I have the Coliseum Video version of WM 5, and when Perfect is interviewed during the intermission by Gene Okerlund, Hart's name is definitely mentioned. I'll have to watch it again to see if it was a "challenge", but it definitely happened.

I just found out that I have MSG Network. I so look forward to this show, especially the second hour (even though I was a new born when most of these matches happened.)
