It's come to my attention that a lot of people on this board absolutely love Kane. I would appreciate it if one or more of them could take a shot at explaining exactly why they hold him in such high regard.
Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike him. I respect his long career of solid work with WWE, and he's been in some great angles in the past with Taker and whatnot.
However, he is/was a monster archetype, which I have a very low tolerance for. And on top of that, they basically blew his entire gimmick when they took the mask off of him and had him talk...and that was years ago.
Since then he's basically been a monster-jobber and has been involved in some truly terrible angles like Katie Vick to balance out his earlier fine programs. Even recently, this stuff with him stalking Edge over his shoulder is just bordering on goofy. Of course, he's not in charge of creative or booking, so it isn't his fault.
But I don't quite understand why so many people want to see him have a heavyweight title reign so badly. Is it just because he's never had a proper one before and people think he deserves it? I'm really trying to understand here.

It's just when you compare him to the other big faces on SD, I don't like Batista or Matt Hardy, and though I'm not a huge Kane mark or anything i like the guy
So basically in my case it's just Kane by default

I think you have answered your own question.
WWE seems to have a thing for big men 'monsters', but pushes the wrong ones in my opinion.
Undertaker seems to be the only one they've got right.
To me Vader, Bam Bam and Kane all fall into a category of legitmately tough, naturally agile big men who, for reasons I don't know got crapped on.
OK, Vader headlined a few PPV's and Bam Bam headlined WMXI, but just as they seem to get momentum they seemed to be dropped.
Yet still the continual pushes for Mark Henry, Khali and in the past, Diesel and, if your splitting heirs, Big Show.

Here goes.
First off, I think he is brilliant in the ring. The athleticism he displays for a man of his size is extraordinary. When he isn't paired with with guys like Henry and Khali he is pretty much a lock to put on a great match.
Plus he can do a great drop kick and he's done a freakin' Hurricanrana.
I also admire the way he conveyed emotion when he was under the mask through body language. Very subtle yet extremely effective.
I also think he is very good on the mic and can get across a wide spectrum of emotions. His Eulogy for Undertaker after Survivor series 03 was outstanding. One of the most evil promos I have ever seen. Also he's been involved in some great comedy moments, like imitating Hogan and Rock, numerous skits with RVD, 'there's another door' skit with the big show, plus singing 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire' around the time he was feuding with MVP. Also his sadistic laugh is just incredible.
My appreciation of Kane has carried over from when I was a kid. At that time I was gripped by his almost super hero look and character. As I got older I became more appreciative of just how good he is.
Added to all that he seems to have no ego and wants to do what is best for the business.
Kane= easily one of the best gimmicks of all time, and Glen Jacobs is one of the best big men of all time. All my opinion of course.

I think Kane's appeal comes from his overall story arch. The dude's been around and been in good character situations. Now he's a beefed up Val Venis who is so clearly going to lose this Sunday that I don't know why anyone would pay for this match. I'm thinking of not buying the PPV specifically because I know the outcome of one of the "main" events.

Bam Bam headlined WMXI, but just as they seem to get momentum they seemed to be dropped. . Yeah, Bam Bam headed WMXI in a match with no title in it. And that was in his second WWE run. His first one he just lingered in the undercard squashing foreign heels for cheap pops. Kind of a poor man's Jim Duggan. By any rights he shoulda been champ in the latter 80's, instead of unsuccessfully trying to recreate Hulkamania with Macho Man and Warrior. I want to cry like once a week thinking about how great it coulda been. I miss ya, big guy.

Kane's appeal is his ability to adapt.
And I've always been content with him as long as he was being used correctly. Sometimes, he'd be easy to beat, sometimes he's "unstoppable". As long as he's in "monster mode" like he was last week (appearing in the shadows and being creepy behing Edge), the guy can't be beat.
Plus, he's a breath of fresh air in the title picture. BAtista will get it back soon enough, Mysterio will be back in it soon enough, Mark Henry, Matt Hardy and Finlay will be losing the shots forever, but Kane can certainly carry that belt as a great heel.

I loved it when it was the Brothers of Destruction (i think) against The Dudleys, and Kane did the Wassup! thing.

I've been driving the big red bandwagon to get Kane a title run since the EZ Board days way waaay back in '03, and much of why has already been discussed.
I think the guy is brilliant on the microphone for what he does, his facial expressions alone are classic, and he even was able to convey menace when fully masked and costumed.
Plus the guy can wrestle. He's never gonna bust out a whole lot of technical skills, but he doesn't really have to. He's a big man who looks like he could just bludgeon you unmercifully, so he wrestles big man style.
To me, the guy has 'it'. I've just always marked for him.

I still don't get the hate over unmasked Kane...
Big men in wrestling are a dime-a-dozen... But big men who are actually talented at the craft are harder to find than an Indy wrestler who doesn't use the "stiff kicks"...
Kane has been a character that, while not showered with titles, can be relied upon to make or break any up-and-coming superstar. If they can handle themselves in the ring with Kane, then usually they can handle themselves pretty well.
Also, the guy does have undeniable charisma. This is why I argue that Kane should never put the mask back on, as his facial expressions are amazing. Yes, the quiet persona worked, but there's nothing more evil in wrestling than that evil laugh that Kane does.
On top of all of this, Kane can still go in the ring. Yes, he's not at his high point (which was a few years ago) but he's still consistently entertaining.
Simply, Kane is pretty frickin sweet...

I agree with the original poster. Kane is boring. I don't hate him,but I would rather he just go away. He can't be taken seriously as a threat, he ALWAYS comes out on the short end of the stick, and his act is way past stale. Having said that, I kind of liked him when he was teamed up with Boogeyman. As a singles guy,he is washed up.

I don't enjoy Kane a lot unless he's psycho monster heel Kane ala 2003, but I respect the loyalty and hard work he's brought to the company. He deserves one last run with the title just for that reason, and I don't say that about a lot of guys.
