I am by no stance a Cena hater like a lot of the IWC but the promo tonight just stunk of something written to try and be exactly like The Rock. I must say again I have no beef with Cena but honestly his promo tonight was just like one The Rock would have deliviered expect the Rock would have made us all feel chills. It's nothing against Cena, but I noticed at the end his comedic timing might be a tiny bit off, when he slapped the greatest interviewer in the world at the end and said good talk, if he would have taken a couple seconds after he slapped the chest and said good talk, it would have connected a lot better. I know I don't know much, it's just my opinion.

It is just sad that they are making try to be the rock, I think Cena would be fine if they didn't heavily script his promos.

I thought the promo was one of his better ones.
As for the Rock, Cena and others are and will continue to be compared to the Rock for years to come. We need to face it, Rock was a once in a blue moon, lightning in a bottle person/character.

I understand, and I don't want to try and compare Cena to The Rock because The Rock was one of a kind, I was just saying that his style with Grish's eyes closed and agreeing with everything Cena said until Cena bursted his bubble was very Rockesk, I made up a word. As I said in another thread if they let Cena be Cena he'd be fine, this just seemed very scripted and very Rock like by the writers.

Even the Rock's promos were occasionally crap and repetitive.
But mostly they were awesome and imaginative.
With Cena unfortunately they had a good thing going with the diss raps, but now he's written as an obnoxious frat boy who depends on poop and gay jokes.
I don't blame him. I blame the piss poor writers and Vince for approving that tosh.

I just wanted to say I don't blame Cena at all, I blame whoever writes the promos and makes him read them word for word, I think he could put on a great promo by himself without too much help, but it seems like the writers are making him read a promo that The Rock would have given, but by reading it instead of it seeming spontaueous, it comes off as not as great as it should have been. Cena is funny and clever, but let him go with it instead of making poop jokes, he can give good promos, just let him go with the flow by himself.

Sorry poop joke was meant as a generalization, I just meant that the WWE should let Cena be funny and entertaining without telling him exactly what to say

Ok, I see.
IDK, I think Cena does alright for himself. I can see the comparisons to The Rock. In fact, I USUALLY see Cena's promos and agree that its more in the style of The Rocks old stuff, but honestly I don't think its that bad. He's pretty funny when need be, and his more serious promos are his strong suit.
Sorry 'bout that last post, didn't want to come across as being all pissed off.

Oh no worries at all, this is a discussion board, if you disagree with something I say I hope you say something so we can discuss it. I just see Cena being better off as a guy who can come out and try and go with the flow and react to what happens, instead of making the Grish close his eyes and go along with him as if it's something straight out of The Rock's playbook. Cena is entertaining and is over, just let him be him and he'll do great.

Even the Rock's promos were occasionally crap and repetitive. But mostly they were awesome and imaginative. No offense dude, but occasionally? That's pretty generous. Practically every promo Rock cut that I can recall consisted of his Six Catchphrases of Doom (tm), just used in a different order. At least Cena, scripted or not, changes things up from one interview to the next.
