was I the only one pissed off last night that the "E" wouldn’t even acknowledge the passing of the late Karl Gotch?

The general wrestling fans (i.e., the casual fans) are like, "Karl who?"
However, Gotch is referenced occassionally, e.g., in one of the Rock's promos in 2001, putting over the history of the WCW title that he won, from (and I quote) "Gotch to Thesz to Steamboat to Flair", and them mocking "Booker T and that guy from Scream 2".
Essentially, WWE has adopted WCW's canon of the WCW World title, at least until 2002.

I always assumed it was Frank due to the Frank Gotch vs George Hackenschmidt matches over the World Championship and that Frank was recognized as having the longest NWA title reign ever.

Karl Gotch is the one who died.
And he was a WWWF tag team champ, too (with Rene Goulet in 1971 or so) so there is a direct company connection to him.....

Karl Gotch did work for the WWWF and won the tag titles. It is understandable if they didn't mention him, But I thought they should have he contributed a lot to Pro-Wrestling.

I know that Karl died, but my question was more about The Rock's quote that duomaxwell022112 posted. He said that Karl Gotch was references occasionally, but I think that quote refered to Frank Gotch.
Yes, they should have acknowledged Karl's death since he was a former tag champ.

I wonder if New Japan did or will do anything.

I wonder if New Japan did or will do anything. They should, without him and Lou Thesz, wrestling over there probably would not have failed after Rikidozan died.

The man gets plenty of credit, and it's not like it was the tragic early death of someone that had worked for WWE in recent memory... he was 82, and was far more famous in Japan.

Honestly? I don't blame them. They might not of even been aware of it.
It's not disrespectful, though. Disrespectful would of been mocking the death.

They just didn't honor him on TV. That's not disrespect.

I haven't heard of him but if he's a former tag champ it shouldn't have been too hard to just show a picture of him and d.o.b - 2007 at the start of the show.

I don't see it as a big deal, really... it's nice when they do it, but they're not obligated.
