...is one heel who actually stands up for himself. One heel who isn't:
1. A cowardly wuss.
2. Booked as an unstoppable monster.
3. HHH or Vince McMahon.
Is that too much to ask?
That's all.

So, you'd like a heel who is capable in the ring and goes straight after his opponent, using intellegeance and rule bending to win?
I hear a sound in the distance.
Can you hear it?
Kennedy!

Orton, you say?
*BZZZZT* Sorry, try again!
Orton still bailed out of the ring on RAW as soon as Cena countered the RKO and turned to face him. He's still a wuss.
Kennedy...
Maybe.
When he's not busy feuding with undercard lucha jobbers and killing time during commercial breaks saying his name 100 times in a row.

In this day and age that makes you a face. Cena and Batista were the last two I remember being that way and they were turned face do to fan support.

A pitiable individual who's been reduced to winding down his career by feuding with a 50-something announcer? Perhaps I should have added: 4. Relegated to complete irrelevance.

I actually think Randy Orton's heel persona is reminiscent of Triple H. It's not that Orton is cowardly, he just picks his opportunities to attack his opponent. It's a psychology thing. Personally, I would LOVE to see the type of heel you're talking about. They really don't seem to create those kinds of heels these days anymore.

In practice, it's a very fine line between Randy retreating from Dusty Rhodes because he "picks his opportunities" and "the ultimate opportunist" Edge assuming the fetal position whenever Batista comes into view.

Heels are an interesting thing, especially nowadays that everything is so exposed. If a heel stood up for himself a lot, and wasn't a cowardly wuss, wouldn't he get....cheered? Remember, you're a heel. Bobby Hennan is a good example. While he could be funny at times, in general he would talk tough, then run when confronted. Everybody hates those kind of people. So as a heel, why not do that.
Guys like Ken Kennedy and Randy Orton, they won't back up all that much, but they will do it enough, and do other things to keep them as heels.
An unstoppable monster I think is tough to book, because it's the Road Warriors complex. The Road Warriors as heels were unstoppable wrecking machines who didn't back up. So what happened? They got cheered. They were turned babyface, because being fearless and kicking ass can be seen as an admirable quality, and will be viewed as cool. That's what happened with Umaga. Umaga though was purposely turned babyface on Santino though. If they wanted to keep him heel, he would have brutalized a beloved babyface like Jeff Hardy, or the way they kept him heel before, by having him get heat by proxy with the McMahons. So what they're doing with Snitsky is in promos, have him discuss sick and twisted things, and make him disliked in that sense. Plus, he has the look of a heel.
So in reality, it is too much to ask. Because Vince McMahon was an awesome heel. He stood up for himself, but he had an army to stand behind him, and had millions of dollars to back him up. So he always had an advantage. And a cowardly wuss, the man pissed himself out of fear. How brave is that?
And even with Triple H, he would always have Evolution with him and would normally back down from the babyface when needed.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't know another poster who's opinions pertaining to wrestling I respect more than his. Absolutely spot on. The idea of a heel is you want to hate him. If he's standing up for himself, he's gonna become a face because fans generally respond very well to someone who isn't gonna back down from a challenge. That's precisely what happened to Austin in 1997.
