I didn't watch WCW at all really, but knew who Jericho was a little bit, so did everyone know the countdown clock was for him? I'm sure the "smarks" did, but I was only 11 back in 1999 and didn't use these "internets." So was it a surprise only to me?

i'm sure some people did know, but I don't think necessarily EVERYBODY knew, but people knew who he was as soon as his name appeared on the titantron...so maybe they did know and didn't know at the same time...

The people on the Internet knew, but I didn't know until he actually debuted.

I think some did know as there was a few Jericho signs (could be wrong, but I swore I saw them) in the crowd.
It was a surprise to me as I didn't have a computer yet, so I didn't know.

I pretty much knew it was him, and that's just from the dirtsheets I used to read.
One of the highlights of his debut was the speculation that he was going to be Chris Gericho, the host of G-TV.

I didn't know as I was a young mark back then. I was very surprised to see the huge letters spelling out JERICHO.

As much as I love this board, I think knowing so much in advance has actually made my wrestling viewing experience slightly worse. Not knowing about the InVasion in advance would probably have made me stop watching it a year earlier than I did.

I knew about the InVasion and marked out for it initally, on that first Raw when ECW joined the mix, but when they announced at the end that Steph was the owner, I knew it wouldn't end up good.

I was 15 and knew it was him, but only because the internet told me. I didn't however know who he was other than seeing him a few times on wcw and reading an article in wcw magazine that told me he likes to wear Boxer-Briefs.
Was a great debut though.

i knew who it was and since he was my favorite wrestler in wcw i was really looking forward to raw that night. thats when i started watching mainly wwf instead of wcw. i remember seeing FAKE photoshop pictures of the game wrestlemania 2000 which hadn't come out yet which had him in it but with the name EXCALIBUR on some site (it may or may not have been rahjah) this was a couple of weeks before he debuted.

I remember there was a lot of speculation as to what was going to happen as a result of the countdown...some websites reported that Gillberg was going to come out and say it was one big joke.
I wish I was joking.

I'm pretty sure you can hear a faint "JER-I-CHO JER-I-CHO" as the clock is counting down.

I did know he was going to debut that night, and hated knowing, same as The Big show, and radicals. Damn internet Oh also want to mention back that year Big Show was rumored to debut as TITAN, anyone remember that?
