I have to admit, though im most likely the minority, since most of the iwc love both guys, that after the era of the big heavyweight such as hogan, warrior, etc. I just could never buy that fact that bret or shawn were world championship material. They had their place with the ic belts, but did you guys ever seriously consider that these guys were little legit world champs because of how small they were?

Yeah I bought them both.
Bret was the best wrestler on the roster and I loved him.
Shawn I didn't personally like but I did think he was good enough for the belt. The guy was the showstopper for a reason.

Ya I was a young kid before I knew all this stuff was staged and I FLIPPED out with excitement in both men's runs. I was a small guy, still am. So seeing these guys on top made me feel happy, Plus they couple do a lot more interesting moves and fun stuff to watch then the other guys who had titles runs in those time periods IMO.

I drank the kool aid with the both of them. More Bret than Shawn, but both were good champs.

absolutely.
Bret was technically superior to the big men and could outwrestle and outsmart them. HBK just wouldn't go down and outlasted them. It wasn't like either was booked to dominate bigger guys.

NO
And size doesn't enter into it.
Bret was not great at working a crowd, and Michaels is only passable. (And by working a crowd I mean in the ring, not just promos)

Shawn yes, Bret no. Mainly because Bret's competition when he was world champ, besides Taker and Nash and Shawn, was largely boring so I couldn't care less. Oooooh, evil dentists and pirates, and crazy old Bob Backlund....

Oooooh, evil dentists and pirates, and crazy old Bob Backlund.... Well to be fair, Shawn had most of the same guys, such as Sid,Bulldog and Vader. And Bret never fought Yankem and Jean-Pierre Lafitte was he was WWE Champion. I liked Bret better, Shawn just seemed to me like a flippy highspots guy.

I bought both guys as champs easily.
Especially Shawn. He was better than Bret in a drug-induced stupor.

And he didn't? Hmm. Diesel must've been champ then, 1993-1995 WWF was just an unlikeable blur to me for the most part.

Maybe I would have had a better time believing if bret or shawn took on Hogan and beat him or took on the warrior and if viewership didnt sink when they had their title runs.

I know Sid beat him on RAW to win the title after Bret held it for, what, a day? I don't really remember a feud beyond that. I guess HBK just got better matches out of those guys, in my opinion, anyway. Sadly I can't remember a Bret world title feud that interested me, besides his one with Shawn.

They did sort of feud in late September of 1997, had a title match on Raw, the Hart Foundation runs in, and the Patriot saves Vader which leads to Vader turning face and they were doing the USA vs. Canada deal with it. Then at Ground Zero that year it was Vader/Patriot vs. Bulldog/Hart. I liked Bret's matches and some of Shawn's as well, but I'm more partial to Bret.

Well let's see...
Both put on incredible wrestling matches, both entertained me almost always without exception, and both were amazing talents.
So yeah, why wouldn't I?

And the Patriot was terribly under-utilized, IMO, but injury prone from what I remember.

both were good champs...wasn´t their fault that a) Bret had rather dull feuds/opponents (besides Nash, Shawn and Taker) at the time and b) the booking was poor during Shawn´s 96 run

The guy was the showstopper for a reason. Completely agree, although the other way round. The very fact Bret was the best wrestler was why i didnt like him (i really am a full on child of McMahon and much prefer character over substance), but i could see why he was champ cos he was a great technician. Shawn was awesome as the cocky heel and that evolved into DX, plus his matches, while at times could be technical, were usually not overly long and usually had good build up.

I've always felt that Bret Hart deserved his title run, as he was technically superior to most of his opponents.
Shawn Michaels IMHO was "in the right place at the right time" champ, eventually growing into the role. Good mic work helped put him over, too.
Sting would have had a hard time against Bret, but would have made short work of Shawn, had he been in the WWF title picture at the time.
And I didn't care for the way Vader was booked against either one (obviously because he was not a homegrown talent).
