someone has to start it the question has to be asked why all the love for The Rock. People hate John Cena and the similaritys between the two are uncanny. The peoples elbow is just a stupid as the 5 knuckle shuffle.
The Rock bottom is just as weak as the F-U.
And these people who try and compare him to Flair as an interview as someone like Flair is absurd
His interviews always came off forced and the same old catchphrases and by the end just bored the crap out of me
And above all that he ran of to Hollywood never to look at the wrestling business again so again the question is why do people like this guy.

Because The Rock, unlike Cena, is funny.

The Rock sold-out.
I heard he eats at Burger King instead of Wendy's.
SELL-OUT.
SELL-OUT HE IS!

NOTHING The Rock did was forced. The Rock, moreso than any other wrestler I've ever seen in my life, sounded natural, and played his role perfectly. He was interesting, funny, exciting, and held the audience in the palm of his hand.
That applied to his promo's, matches, everything. The difference between The Rock and John Cena is that Rock sounded like he was coming up with all his own stuff, regardless of whether or not he was. Cena is the one that sounds forced.
I'll give you that The People's Elbow was stupid, though. I've always hated moves like that.

Don't ask me, the only time I cared for him was his "Hollywood Rock" heel run in early 2003. Other then that I never really got into him that much.
He wasnt that good in the ring, unless it was some kind of gimmick, like a street fight or whatever. His mic work was usually just the same crap and he made stupid jokes about monkey's asses and crap just like Cena does.
I dont like Cena or Rock, but I will say AT LEAST they havent made Cena use the 5 knuckle shuffle as a finisher. When Rock beat people with the People's Elbow, it just made them look pathetic.

I hate The Rock as a face, as a heel his character makes a lot more sense. I tuned out whenever he went babyface.

I thought the Rock was great, I admit I wasn't too crazy about him around mid-2000 but the guy was over and did well for himself.
And about "selling-out", I don't see anything wrong with it at all. You'd rather the guy be immobile and going in and out of surgery, or end up like Dynamite Kid? So when is he able to get away from wrestling, when he's broken up in a hospital somewhere? If they asked me to do movies and get paid more for them, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Meh, never was a huge fan but, toward the end of the Austin feud, he got stale and repetitive (minus a few choice Hollywood Rock promos). I think he like Cena got over on their mic work and once they got to the main event scene, started to mail it in getting more and more stale with each passing week.

I like the Rock, but I think he's a tad overrated on the mic. Some of his promos really weren't funny, IMO. Stuff like "George Rockington". No offense to anyone that laughed at stuff like that, I just don't find it funny.

The Rock was an amazing performer, good on the stick, a natural in the ring, and he had a great sence of timing. His battles with Austin and Jericho were classic. Even the promo he did for the McMahon/Trump match was a nice surprise and showed he still has it.

Non-serious answer: The Rock whipes a monkey's ass with what you think.
Serious answer: People like the guy in short, because he's cool. But there's more to that.
With the rise of popularity of the television show came the rise of comedy promos or comedy skits, that didn't really do much for buisness except make for good television. They are different from money promos, where a wrestler puts over a match or event that people will pay to see. The Rock was somebody who would mix the comedy and the entertainment aspect into his promos, while at the same time sell the match and make people look forward to seeing the match. So it not only made for good television, but it made people want to see The Rock wrestle more.
Also, repetition is a key to success. People when they critique The Rock, they talk about how he said the same thing over and over again. Well, who cares. The people certainly didn't. As a matter of fact, he probably would have disappointed the people if he didn't. If you notice during the Hollywood Rock gimmick, he rarely did his promos where he spouted off a bunch of his catch phrases because he knew that would get over. When he has a bunch of similar catch phrases which people know and recognize, when he says them, the people pop. And the people will want to hear him say these catch phrases. This is also why people's established moves get bigger pops then random moves they do during a match. This is also why finishing moves get big reactions.
So the promo argument is a bad one, because obviously Rock could talk people into the arenas and keep them entertained on television, and him saying the same thing is a bad argument because it's what the people wanted to see. It's like, Crash Holly said this about Rikishi that some people think he's awful, yet the people went nuts for everything he did, so how could it be awful. And if you still think he's awful, why would he change it?
The reason John Cena is so similar to The Rock is not The Rock's fault, lol. I've always said that Cena is a mixture between Hogan, Austin and Rock, which is why everything seems so forced and why he may not be as successful as them. Not only that, but Rock sells better. I used an example numerous occasions when people compare the two.
At Taboo Tuesday 2005 and the Royal Rumble 2001, Rock and Cena were both thrown through tables. They waited for a bit to get back. The difference between the two is Cena came running into the ring attacking Michaels and Angle, and Rock slowly came into the ring to attack Kane, was cut off by The Undertaker, and went selling for the rest of the match. The Rock is 10 times smarter then Cena when it comes to wrestling, which isn't a knock on Cena, because I think you put any name down there and the Rock is 10 times smarter then them.
Raven is said by a lot of people (myself included, being a mark for him, but I'm also a mark for Rock too) that Rock was so smart, and he truely was. The Rock grew up in wrestling so he got a lot of knowledge from his family (Afa, Sika, Rocky Johnson, Peter Maivia) and he picked Pat Patterson's brain for everything he could. Did Rock go to Hollywood? Yeah. But you know what, would you rather take bump after bump for 10 years and make less money, or would you rather go into Hollywood, takes less damage and makes loads of cash. Besides, if his career in Hollywood runs dry, he has wrestling to come back to, and his body is in great shape because of all the bumps he didn't take.
So basically, The Rock is without question one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. It boggles my mind too that people think he wasn't that good of a technical wrestler. So what. He was very fast in the ring, had some pretty good moves, and could work with anybody. You know what kind of style The Rock wrestled? His opponents. He was like a chameleon in the ring. If he wrestled Undertaker, he would take one colour. If he wrestled Kurt Angle, he would take another colour. If he wrestled The Hurricane, he would take another colour. I think that's why he may not have had much technical ability, because he had his opponent's type of match, and did what they did.
He was never selfish, from lots of people, never known to get a big head, apparently was always respectful. Rock is the perfect wrestler in my opinion, and deserved everything he got.

Even the promo he did for the McMahon/Trump match was a nice surprise and showed he still has it. And the promo he cut for McMahon/Trump was the loudest pop that i ever heard for a pretaped segment. It might have been one of the loudest pops they've had so far this year. Whenever he comes out, the crowd pops enormously. So his finishers weren't that great, he was one of the greatest in ring performers ever. And he's a 9-time World Champion, just one shy (soon to be two shy) of Trips. If he ever came back full time, I'd mark the smurf out.

Just because both John Cena and the Rock are limited wrestlers who existed to sell t-shirts first and foremost doesn't mean that the Rock wasn't twice as good as John Cena will ever be.
