So I'm reading the local Wanted Ads during work and come across the "Seeking" section...I see a guy's add that reads something like "SWM 39 seeks SWF, interests include wrestling and Nascar, serious enquiries only..." So of course I decided to not follow that last part and texted him to see who is favorite wrestler was...His response was John Cena...I'm thinking, okay sure maybe he's been a fan for awhile, maybe he'd loved the Prototype...I asked him why he liked Cena, and the guy says something along the lines of "Because he always wins and he's funny"
He asked me who my favorite was, and seeing as Benoit sort of fell out of favor, I went ahead and said somebody he'd actually maybe heard of...Jericho...and the guy says Cena beat him, so he sucks...so I'm wondering if every WWE fangirl-love mark of Cena thinks the same way about the entire roster...and if that's the case, was the same true for guys like The Rock and Steve Austin back in there prime years? I wasn't watching WWF/E at the time, so I wouldn't know...

I think the real question is, why are you texting guys in the want ads?

I know that seems odd...but I couldnt help it...a 39 year old man looking for an older women who likes wrestling? That's got to be a needle in the smurfstack there...specially around this dump of a military base...

I hope this isn't meant to steriotype common WWE fans, the ones commonly called "marks", because "smarks" could be steriotyped even easier.

It's more of me being flabbergasted at the thought of Cena fans thinking that everyone he's beaten sucks because they lost to him...and I was kinda hoping an Attitude era fan could help me out with the Rock/Austin question of the same level of thinking...

I'm a Cena fan, and I've been watching sinse about 1986-87. Cena's soppessed "endless winning" is nothing more than him just being the main babyface of the company. Austin was considered the "Golden Goose" of the attitude era, and he won all the time. It was inconcievable of the fans to wonder if he would loose, and if he did, it was treated on WWE tv as if OJ got away with 6 counts of murder after confessing to it. If michaels jackson showed up in WWE with a crowd full of adults that brought their children on their birthdays, and jackson pinned Cena, the reaction was the same every time Austin lost. I Like Austin, although I do admit that during the attitude era I'd often be cheering for the other guy, but I UNDERSTOOD It. If Austin lost to someone, you can bet your bottom dollar he was going to beat him the next night. Realistically (and I've always said this), but the top babyface shouldn't be loosing more than 5 times a year, clean or not.

In response to the original poster, it was different with Austin, because he wasn't as unrealistically dominant, he still got his ass beat from time to time, and he had a much broader appeal than Cena. Rock, I got sick of after 2000 cause he got wicked stale, but Austin was always fresh IMO.
Plus, who are you more going to believe is unstoppable, a pissed off drunken redneck who's come back from a broken neck, swears, breaks things, goes on rampages, ETC....or a former rapper turned former fake marine turned monkey-faced prettyboy with a silly little fistdrop and a fireman's carry finisher?
To me, Austin was always more interesting when he was chasing a title than when he was defending it. Something they refuse to try with Cena.

Austin had the advantage of having done this all the first time when it was new though. I don't remember Austin ever losing clean except as a heel.

I do agree with the fact that it seems like nowadays the WWE MAKES people like who they choose...I just don't understand the appeal of someone like Cena's character in all of its forms...the whole "potty mouth, bad ass, joker, superhero"

No, Jim Ross, the entire adult fanbase of an arena booing John Cena does not make him "the most contraversial WWE champion of all time". It makes him a failure to that demographic. The crowd originally turned both Austin AND Cena face. The difference is, they neutered Cena and made him totally unlikeable, while they did the smart thing with Austin and rode him to heights that hadn't been seen since Hulkamania.

Not so much Rock and Austin, but the Avg Cena Fan reminds me more of The avg Hulkamaniac during the initial 4yr run. Piper sux cause Hogan Beat him. King Kong bundy Sux cause hogan beat him. Andre... Well you get the pic.
