I'm sure everyone here knows what happend during November 9, 1997 in Montreal. However I think I have an interesting what if. (Jed, I'm looking at you) What if it was Shawn Michaels leaving the WWF for WCW during 1997, and Bret was the one staying. How would that of had an effect on things?
What do you think fellow crappers of mine?

Not much a difference. The only thing that could stopped WCW from shutting down was if Ted Turner went back in time as planned and prevented Vince McMahon Sr. from conceiving his son.
But he wouldn't finish building the T-800 to do the job, so...

I don't think the attitude era would have been a success without Michaels.
Bret Hart, whether he was face or heel, never had the "I completely hate the guy!" arrogance that HBK had.
That's what pushed D-X to the top and that's what made Austin's win over Michaels so important for Austin's career.

Shawn leaving would have hurt WWE more than it would have helped WCW.Hogan would have convinced Bischoff to put Shawn in the cruiserweight division or fued him with Jannetty. I agree that the WWE attitude era would not have been nearly as successfull.

Well hypothetically, Shawn would've never hurt his back in that casket match. I imagine he would've come back to the WWE after WCWs closing, and had a very unfortunate run in Atlanta. And I agree that the attitude era would've been hurt by his absence.
