Since I live on the US-Canada border, I get some Canadian channels. Well flipping through the channels, Rowdy Roddy Piper was doing a standup comedy routine, hosting some special on a Canadian comedy festival (kinda like Premium Blend with a host doing a short routine then introducing acts).
Funny stuff even though almost all of his material was about wrestling

no, it was some Winnepeg Comedy Festival. His bit was about growing up in the area and his 1st ever match against Larry "The Ax" Hennig

Although Canada has some great wrestling heritage (The Hart Family is all that need be said in this respect), I hate the fact that the CRTC led to so much censorship during the Attitude era (The WWF released a video called "Banned in Canada" so we could see the tame sequences that the uptight slapnuts in the CRTC censored for us).

That part on TV was just a little bit of what he did. I heard more on CBC Radio FM a few weeks back.
The funniest bit was about how tough Winnepeggers are. He says (and I am paraphrasing) "I lost my ear in a match with Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine. You tell that to a Winnepegger and they'll say 'Big deal, I lost my ear to frostbite walking to the mall in February'. You people are tough!"

Which is crazy, because our TV is way more wild than US TV. CTV showed an unedited version of Showgirls, there's cursing everywhere (so long as the US doesn't censor it first), nudity, the whole deal......So it's odd Raw got so censored, apparently. I always watched on USA in those days.

That tape is BS, I know I've seen half that stuff on TV before.

the "banned in Canada" thing is more "banned on TSN" than anything else. it's a sports network, so they try to portray this image of good wholesome fun.
