From SuperECWFan1 at the Comic Book Resources boards - I liked this and wanted to see what the people here thought of it...
This is pretty much a fan fiction version of a What If tale. This will be 2 parts at most so please wait and then comments or your own "What If" tale can be posted. I'm calling this a suggestive "what if" timeline of what could have happened had Vince not bought World Championship Wrestling in the spring of 2001.
****************************************
Feb. 2001: Eric Bischoff decides against going on vacation and attends meetings with his Fusiant Media partners concerning the sale of WCW and its assets. While meeting with Turner , new VP of programming on the Turner Networks ; Jamie Kellnor suggests he may cancel Nitro and Thunder from TNT & TBS. Bischoff balks and claims that no one will wanna pay $50 million for it.
Feb.2001: Kellnor's threat riles Time Warner Execs who realize that what Kellnor suggests could kill a potential $50 million deal and advertising they attract with WCW . Kellnor gets told that canceling both shows isn't an option and the sale continues forward.
March 2001: Bischoff takes control and holds a meeting before many of the current WCW workers. After the Greed PPV the company will go on a break til June and relaunch with a massive media push. The pay structure will mirror the WWE's and those who take advantage will not be brought back. Bischoff confirms Scott Hall is done with the company for good .
March 2001: Bischoff watches as ECW falls. He secretly behind closed doors considers making a run at buying Heyman out and owning part of ECW. Once an offer does get made , Heyman goes to Vince McMahon who ups and buys ECW . This creates the big 2 again as ECW is swallowed up whole by McMahon. Of course many of the stars aren't paid and some like Rob Van Dam , Sabu and Rhino decide against working for the WWE at that moment. Dreamer follows his boss to WWE.
Late March 2001: After the Greed PPV's lackluster Buyrate Eric Bischoff knows massive retooling is needed. As boss now he hires Jerry Lynn as a Road Agent and booker of the Cruiserwieght division. Lynn swears he can rebuild the division and that a lotta new guys like A.J Styles and Christopsher Daniels is gonna give WCW a new jolt creatively.
April 2001: Bischoff has new belts made for the WCW World Tag team and US Title as well a sWorld Title , and drops the Cruiserwieght tag belts from existance. He then makes Jeff Jarrett another road agent and scout .
June: June 16th is the date WCW will return. After a hot add campaign of a flying Rey Mysterio Jr (back in his mask) the add campaign is WCW:I Love WRESTLING . The relaunch of a new retro Nitro set pleases the fan base.
The 1st title belt up for grabs will be the new WCW World Title. The belt actually shines and glitters now as Bischoff has taken an off screen role. Ric Flair comes out and is made the owner of WCW in this storyline claiming that if anyones should own World Championship Wrestling , Its the Nature Boy !
Flair annouces a new tournament for the title that will happen at the July "Great American Bash" PPV. The winner gets the title. During the night Lynn's key finds of Low-KI , A.J Styles and Christopher Daniels put on amazing matches. Styles beats his former partner Air Paris to be the new WCW Cruiserwieght Champion , Rick Steiner wins the TV Title that night in a street fight with Dustin Rhodes.
June 2001: Rob Van Dam teases fans as he's became a hot free agent. The WWE wants him as does Bischoff. Finally its learned Bischoff has made him a sweet deal to Main Event and has signed Sabu as well to get RVD.
Hulk Hogan details on Bubba the Love Sponge during this that he called and asked when he would be able to return to work. Bischoff he says told him late 2001 or early 2002. The plan is to build the new stars of WCW. Many have no clue if Hogan is lying or not.
Over at WCW , Mike Awesome wins the US Title in pretty hard fashion by putting 2 men thru tables to win the US Title.
July 2001: At the GAB PPV , Lance Storm in a solid 35 minute match beats Booker T to become WCW World Champion. Halfway thru Ric Flair nails Booker with the title to bust him open . The match continues on as Booker keeps going.
The next night on Nitro Flair becomes Lance Storm's manager and details that WCW always meant the "Best Wrestlers in the World" mantra. Storm crowns himself the "The Best in the World" and sets out to prove it.
Sept. 2001: Online Bischoff answers what questions he can. He details he will no longer be on TV as its boring. He also contends that Jeff Jarrett,Jerry Lynn, and Jim Cornette now write the shows. He himself sits in and is the editor.
Hogan won't be back he claims. The Main Event picture of WCW will be:
Booker T
Lance Storm
Jeff Jarrett
Scott Steiner
Rob Van Dam
Sting
Mike Awesome
Goldberg
Bischoff claims that attendance for live shows is suprisingly up the last 3 months and that Nitro's Rating has went up to a 3.1 rating , up from the low 2.0's Nitro was pulling. The GAB PPV pulled a way higher Buyrate than the Greed PPV did. Eric then puts over that A.J Styles is a star on the rise.
Goldberg shockingly makes his suprise return at the October PPV "Halloween Havoc". After Storm beats his ex-partner Mike Awesome by nefarious ways , Goldberg spears Flair and points at Storm .
December 2001: At Starrcade Goldberg ends up losing the match as its a fatal fourway of Sting/Goldberg/Jeff Jarrett/Storm in a cage. Sting shocking wins the WCW World Title after Goldberg had speared Lance Storm but couldn't make the pin.
Bsichoff is a happy camper as WCW has held 3 PPV's since being bought. Next year he tells the staff that WCW will run 9 PPV's. Plus more overseas tours as well. Nitro and Thunder have improved dramasticlly in the ratings as now Nitro pulls in the lower 3.0's and Thunder still draws a 1.9 average. Its seen as slow improvment .
Champions by the end of 2001:
WCW World Champion: Sting
WCW US Champion: Rob Van Dam
WCW TV Champion : A.J Styles
WCW Cruiserwieght Champion : Elix Skipper
WCW Tag Team Champions: Kronik.
Spring 2002: While scouting guys at an indie show , Jeff Jarrett sees Chris Harris and James Storm put on a good singles match. Jarrett raves about both men to Bischoff convincing him they should be signed. Both are and at 1st Bischoff wants them as singles guys. But Jarrett knows WCW needs tag teams. AMW is born.
The hot fueds in WCW seem to be Sting/Storm over the WCW World title , Goldberg/Jarrett and Rob Van Dam/Mike Awesome .
