Can someone please tell me? I tried watching Joe/Punk II but I couldn't get into it because it was literally 15 minutes of them stalling in the beginning. I hear the wrestling is great, but I don't want a long match for the sake of a long match, which is what 15 minutes of stalling is. It's not good psychology, it's laziness. I'm not a big fan of restlocks either, which I hear is a big part of "puro". I like action, you can have good psychology without 10 minutes of restlocks. Since you said your into fast paced action, I'm going to go ahead and say you have a big misconception about psychology. You alos commented on Lucha Libre possibly being your thing. Lucha Libre has ABSOLUTELY NO psychology for the most part. It's just a bunch of flippy fancy offense for the sake of flippy fancy offense. The whole psychology around Joe/Punk was the headlocks. The first match set that up well with Punk slowing it down with the constant headlocks and rope-a-dope to take Joe to the distance. Joe survived the 60 minutes though. The second match was Joe countering the counters from the first match and getting more in but Punk hit more of his high-impact offense to counter that and working on the shoulder also but neither man could get it done. The psychology was it being long. The psychology was the headlocks. They built up to a creshendo over the first 40-45 minutes of the match for the hot endings. And with that time they can elaborate more into the story. As for Puro being about "restlocks". Yeah, but they steadily are dissecting a body part so when the end comes and the high impact offense is happening, if you notice the great Puro wrestlers will sell that early dissection and have it outcome the finish.

^^
There's psychology in lucha. There's the whole rudo/tecnico drama and then all kind of stuff about Latin male pride in the mask dynamic. Maybe not in Chikara as much, but definitely in Mexican lucha.
That being said, I don't get the thing about puro being all restlocks. I thought stiff chops and strikes were pretty much the hallmark of puro?

Depends on the promotion. Classic AJPW is filled with all kinds of smart, low-key matwork (I'd love to do an armbreaker/armbar-count in Misawa/Kobashi '97). NOAH is known for all the head-dropping and chopping, NJPW has a reputation for general hard-hitting (though my NJPW knowledge is very poor).

As far as I'm aware, Uno's staying with Chikara. I think it was more of an example. Also, Akuma and Hallowicked are going to be on the next Long Island and Edison shows, so get used to more Chikara guys.

I actually like those guys, it's the really skinny stupid gimmick kids I don't like. I think they're all just students from the Chikara school anyway though.

I wasn't sure who you meant by bums, so I thought I'd give you the heads up. And Akuma was awesome in the Do or Die in Philly. I hope he becomes a regular.

And yet wrestling is hotter in Mexico right now than anywhere else in the world If you wanna watch "flippy fancy offense for the sake of flippy fancy offense." with no psychology watch most US indies or even some TNA.

I didn't say it was wrong. I was just saying there is a lack of psychology in it, but that's their thing.
I was making the point that the original poster thought ROH matches were boring because the lack of psychology and then cited Lucha Libre as something he might like.

I recommend watching the Briscoes as a way of getting to know why ROH is awesome. Spotty as hell, but damned fun to watch.
As for lucha...there is psychology there, it's just completely different from the "work a leg!" psychology of America and Japan. There's still an art to the flow of the match and the control of crowd reactions.

It reminds me a lot of the stuff I enjoyed as a kid. That's what I like the most about it. I will admit, it's an acquired taste and that's cool.

Long Island is July 27 (but watch out, the crowds there are assholes). The City is August 25.
