Joe having the belt is alright with me, but they should of not done this stupid storyline, and just let Machismo and Sabin feud for it.

It'd be easy enough to fix, just like WWE's IC situation really, just have people feud over it, make it seem like they really want that title.

The X-Division title initially had the same purpose that ROH's Pure Title did: to serve as an "equal" to the World Title, something meant to be equal in stature, but different in what it represented and what kinds of matches it would emphasize.
For awhile, TNA was doing a great job of making them seem pretty even. Sure, World Title matches still headlined most PPVs, but the X-Title got a lot of spotlight and some nifty feuds.
It basically went down the drain first after Joe killed the division (a BIG TIME wasted oppurtunity: Joe vs. Sabin from No Surrender 2005 is still one of my absolute favorite TNA matches, and Sabin could've easily been a contender against "monster champ" Joe), then when D'Amore booked Senshi to win the belt and do...nothing.
Then Russo and Mantell took over, and the belt has officially begun being booked as a midcard strap. Really, look at most of the X-Division now; barring some decent buildup, could you buy any of them as main eventers? I mean, yes, I WANT to see guys like Sabin and Shelley main eventing, but the way TNA has built them and the division recently, it ain't gonna happen.
TNA would likely do well to do away with it at this point, if it isn't going to serve it's initial purpose. Have Joe and Angle fight a unification match at Bound For Glory or something, bring in a regular midcard title.
OR, if they like, try to salvage the division by emphasizing it as something important again.

At least it's still not as useless as Team 3-D as tag champs.

I never understood what qualified someone as an X-division wrestler. If it's not about weight limits, but about "No Limits". Do you have to have a minimum 36' inch vertical jump or something?

Unfortunately I gotta agree about the Joe situation. While some x-division regulars pushed Joe he still beat every one cleanly as a freaking heel. Between that and the two biggest names in the division in Styles and Daniels moving-on the there was very little main event aura left in the division. They shoulda let some x-divisioner get some heat on Joe before he left. Then there wouldn't have been such a void.
The x-division still has guys that can work, but it screams lower-card, the guy getting the most love pretends to be Randy Savage for piss-sakes. Ya it is funny but this is a far-cry from when the x-division had real juice within the promotion.

Do you have to have a minimum 36' inch vertical jump or something? my point exactly It was never fleshed out, but general ability to participate in an Ultimate X match was kind of presumed until Joe came on the scne and won the title anyway, despite NOT being able to do this. Yes, I'm still bitter.
