- Phil Baroni, who lost to Frank Shamrock via choke in the second round of their bout on June 22, failed a pre-fight drug test; testing positive for Boldenone (Equipoise) and Stanozolol (Winstrol V). He will be fine $2,500 and is suspended for one year by the California State Athletic Commission.
Baroni, as reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, went into the fight with what may or may not have been a serious injury. A serious injury, though, did occur very early in the fight when Baroni tore his groin muscle off the bone.
Frank Shamrock passed his pre-fight drug test, which was for not only performance enhancing drugs but street drugs as well.
Baroni will be out for a rather long period of time recuperating his serious groin injury on top of the suspension handed down by the state of California.
