WCW's cruiserweight division is probably the best thing it had going for it outside of the nWo during the MNW.

You can't post that battle royal without the big payoff match that followed it. Thats seriously one of my favorite moments in wrestling, period.

Jericho CLEARLY doubted El Dandy in his introduction. Outrageous.

I loved the cruiserweight division because you never knew who would be showing up in it.
Imagine the Japanese or Mexican guys in it now if WCW were still around. Marafuji, Mistico...

WCW had an excellent undercard, far greater than their main eventers (for the most part). The mid-card was stacked as well, those 'middle-men' were the ones who carried the show, with the nWo being mainly filler and setup for the main event, which for the most part on Nitro, was a major let down.

That was the really cool thing about old WCW, I marked so hard for the crusierweights and midcarders that I didn't care about Hogan and his backstage crap. Thats when I discovered one of my all-time favorites in the Ultimo Dragon!

That WCW Mid-Card carried the show, even when there was boredom and exaustion with the never-ending NWO/WCW war.
REally, that mid-card was so damn good, I set my clock to watch the "jobber show" WCW SATURDAY NIGHT just to see Benoit/Booker T/Finlay/Jericho/etc. duke it out. Definately better than seeing Hogan the heel slapping people with a belt like a bad S&M video.

Jericho's reign as CW champ was the best thing in wrestling at the time. Not the NWO, DX, Austin, Hogan, Goldberg, or anything else.

Man, that battle royale and resulting Malenko/Jericho title match in 1998 is personally MY favorite moment in the history of WCW.
They built up such a great feud. Jericho the absolute mid-card King of Heels who disgraced ole Juventud, mocked Chavo Jr, and then his war with the Iceman Dean Malenko...everyone on NITRO/THUNDER/SATURDAY NIGHT tapping out to Jericho.
Man, that crowd standing up and going apes*** when Malenko is the one that makes Jericho tap out....
Thats a reaction that WWE PPV Main Events haven't had since........when?

The cruiserweight division introduced me to some of my favorite wrestlers that I wish I could follow to this day. Lizmark Jr., Super Calo(I'm an especially big mark for him), Ciclope, Silver King, and it goes on and on.

I endorse this thread. I miss Lizmark Jr. I remember watching one episode of WCW's Saturday morning show (I think it was called Worldwide), and they had Lizmark Jr challenging Ric Flair for the World Heavyweight Title. I wanted ol' Lizmark to win that match SO bad! Unfortunately...well, you know the rest. Lizmarkamania was decidedly not running wild.

There is a theory that Vince McMahon didn't watch or know anything about the WCW product, even when they were beating him.
Raven talked about proposing an angle which Vince really liked, but Vince said to Raven that he didn't want to put the angle on an unproven talent. Raven said in the interview he felt Vince just thought he was in ECW for 5 years, and didn't go to WCW. Had Vince known that Raven was actually a strong part of WCW when they were the number one product, he may've reconsidered.
And same goes for the Crusierweight division. Back in 1997, it wasn't just the nWo that was huge. The Crusierweight division was putting on great matches, and had great wrestlers to push it. And if Vince wanted to help Smackdown out, he'd push the division like it was pushed in WCW.

Sad to see how a great division could be neutered into what it is today. Of all the things from WCW, the CW division is what I miss most.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again... WCW cruiserweight division was the best thing WCW had going for them. and really, i think had the cruiserweight division been treated with the respect it should gotten from WCW themselves, it could have possibly saved the company.
I so TOTALLY MISS WCW cruiserweight division! it kicked some serious f***ing ass! it was GRRRREAT!
