remember wen gorilla moonsoon used to say something like " he doesn't want to go away with the losers share of the purse money"? This might be the dumbest thing i've ever said but do you reckon that back in the day to the winners of matches took away more money based on the fact that they won?

Nah, it was just a way to maintain kayfabe. Had you visualizing a beaten wrestler grumbling when they get the small money bag instead of the big one. =)

Well the same thing mostly happens in boxing so why not in the world of wrestling the same thing?

yeah it may have been to keep kayfabe but what if they did it to keep kayfabe to the workers, I mean the business was crazy protected at one time

In Heenan's book, he actually writes that sometimes promoters would pay the guy who lost more then the guy who won.
The rationale was that the winner would go on to the next shows and draw more money, so it'd even out.

Kamala tells a story about his wife chasing him out of the house with a shotgun when she found out the "money" he won in a match was a work.

I remember the 1-2-3 Kid winning a big bag of money one time.

1-2-3 Kid never won a bag of money.
Razor Ramon wanted a rematch from the upset so he was gonna pay The Kid 50,000 dollars to wrestle him.
After Razor was beating him down for a little while the kid grabbed the money and ran off with it.
Also I think the 'winners purse' was meant to keep kayfabe. In kayfabe you would get paid more for winning rather than losing, when in actuality you get paid by the apperance or on a salary.
So if you were a champion and got disqualified to keep your title you would get a little bit less money for your match but you would keep your title and the paydays that come with it. In kayfabe of course.

I actually like the idea.
Because otherwise, why do heels even bother working with faces in tag matches and such? Why do they care?

It made sense in kayfabe too because what does someone winning a title match by count out or DQ get out of winning? Win/Loss records aren't kept in wrestling unless someone is undefeated, so the only good thing about winning a title match without the title would be alleged extra money.

I remember a match where Macho man retained his IC title by getting himself disqualified. Monsoon (might have been Ventura, but I think it was Monsoon) mentioned that he would keep his title, but wouldn't get the winners paycheck. ...Also he said it in this matter of fact tone, as though Macho Man was a real fool for getting himself DQ'd missing out on all this money. =)

I'd tell them to put it in the hollowed out skull of a bear, lined with barbed wire and guns.
I don't wear no purse.
