I was wondering this for a while...did ECW really invent the "3-Way Dance"? As in, the first ever match with 3 participants? In the Rise and Fall DVD they said they did, but I was brought into wrestling late enough to have seen other triple threat matches so I don't know. However, all the matches I've seen from pre-ECW have never been triple threat matches. Was it really a small fed in Philly that created one of the simpliest ideas ever? Was using 3 singles competitors against each other only around for a little more than a decade? It seems so impossible to fathom, but all the evidence I found leads to it:
1) The DVD claims it. 2) WWF pre 1996 that I've seen haven't had any triple threat matches. 3) Other feds pre 1996 that I've seen haven't had any. 4) I couldn't find any evidence online contridicting it.

3 way dance = Elimination Triple Thread = one fall to a finish
Just wanted to say that...because you know... that's the difference.

In the Early-mid 1990s WCW had "Triangle" Matches. Same rules as 3 way dance.

Ah ok. Thanks for clearing this up. I thought it was impossible to think that the first time 3 singles competitors stepped in a ring against each other was in the 1990s.

McMahon was on there and even called it "Three way dance". Then where was the Estrada chase for the gold or whatever it was called, which was cool, until BDV just got thrown in there.

WCW takes the square with TRIANGLE matches. Yeah that's right, at Starrcade 95 it was Luger vs. Flair vs. Sting to see who would face Savage for the World Title later that night.

That match was several months after the first named "3 Way Dance" (Benoit/Malenko vs Public Enemy vs Tazz/Steiner) and almost two years after Funk/Franchise/Sabu at The Night the Line Was Crossed. What WCW triangle match predated TNTLWC?

Wikipedia talks as if there is no difference between a 3 Way Dance and a Triple Threat. They also speak of a Triangle Match as involving a tag format. Not sure if that info is accurate though as I am certain a 3 Way Dance is elimination.

Didn't the WCW triangle match have one person on the apron, who could be tagged in by either guy?
