The ECW dvd was far superior in terms of content in terms of matches. The AWA dvd is interesting if your interested in the history of wrestling circa 1950 to 1990. Also the number of interesting factoids you would learn from watching it. I never knew Andre and Hulk faced each other in Soldier Field in Chicago. The number of huge stars that past through Minneapolis is simple amazing. Although you can tell there is some WWE revisionist history just by looking at the cover, which has Ric Flair on it. Ric Flair was not a big star at all in AWA. I also dont think they were critical enough of Verne for not keeping up with the times and moving forward. He wanted to keep running a regional promotion in a time when there simply was no such thing.

He is recognizable on a DVD cover and he is by far the most successful student of Gagne's. 2 - Verne tried to become a national company but failed miserably. He had a national cable deal, syndicated his weakly (pun intended) show to new markets, got into PPV, tried to counter Vince's growth by unsuccessfully partnering with different companies twice, and expanded live events to new areas. As an example, Hansen beat Martel for the title in NJ, an area far away from Minneapolis.

I liked this DVD a lot, my favorite part was when Larry Hennig was talking about how business went from great to bad so quickly.
"One week you have Hogan and Andre and the next you have.....* ring announcer talking*Rooster Griffin!"

I loved the DVD, but I wish they would have talked more about how Verne got a % of the pay that the wrestlers that left him. Ric Flair talked about people having to pay Verne when they left. Like him or not Verne really knew how to train wreslters, an artrorm that is really lost today.

Not sure if any of you guys are from MN, but I have found it impossible to find this gem at stores when it came out.
Being the home of the AWA this is understandable, it's odd that the WWE or the department stores did not care about this and only got a couple per.

Stan Hansen gets a full chapter of a WWE DVD?!? Where do I sign?? Eh, it's not too favorable toward ol' Stan (although it IS kinda understandable why...man destroyed the AWA Championship Belt with his truck, for God's sakes)
