On the same note, Dick Foley, you could certainly bump up the levels on certain mics or certain frequencies to make it SEEM like the crowd is cheering when they're not.

I wouldn't doubt the fiddling with the live broadcasts, but Smackdown's been overdubbed for years. I've heard literally identical crowd "cheers" and "boos" dubbed into those broadcasts since around 2000. And yes, they are exactly the same. I can produce tapes from '00-'01 as well as recordings of recent shows, where you can hear the *exact* same cheers and boos. It's become pretty redundant. While I don't doubt that there's some fiddling with the noise levels, to think that there isn't some dubbing going on during the taped programs would be naive. Since large crowds cheering and booing sounds so much different each time and all. No, this is correct. Not similar, the exact same boos and cheers. I've even come to recognize them. Same tone, inflection and volume. I hear 3 different cheers that I've been hearing for years. I wouldn't be able to remember that if not for the fact that I've heard them SO many times. One of the three even has the same slight boos mixed in.

You'd think that, after this many years, they'd at least record some new ones.

I'll back up the claim that it's the same clip of crowd cheer used.

It really would've helped the Kennedy/Jannetty match that the crowd was woefully silent for. IMO, really bad booking to give this the main event match slot, the crowd was already cheered out for guys like Hogan.
But I do wanna say good for Marty, who despite "personal demons" or what have you is the one guy who has always showed up ready to rock, so to speak, and puts on good matches seemingly out of nowhere. The guy's still got it, always has, and its sad he never managed to stick around too long.

Okay apparently everyone has worked for the WWE's editing department and knows for a fact that this is done. Good job all of you!

I thought they already did this?
I can't really say I'm for or against the practice. It's really the perogative of the WWE...it's not really a dishonest practice or anything.

It's VERY obvious that they use the same soundbyte every time. If I had the time and the material, I'd try and create a video.
It's always the one with the high-pitched scream in the middle, or the scattered boo's. They've been using it for many years.

Didn't RD go to a Smackdown around the time of the Rock/Hogan feud and remark about this very thing? Like on the recorded broadcast, it seemed like the crowd was very pro one way or the other (I forget which), but when he was there live, it really DID sound like "Rogan! Rogan!", split 50/50 like the Rock said during the show.

ECW isn't live. Its taped on Smackdown showings. No. Not always. ECW is occasionally taped before Smackdown (Like when they had the Thursday show, so it was recorded first), but the majority of the time, it is shown live.

They should only pipe in cheers for Jericho, since he is unable to generate any reaction besides the chirp of crickets. (cheap heel heat)

Okay apparently everyone has worked for the WWE's editing department and knows for a fact that this is done. Good job all of you! On the list of the IWC's conspiracy theories, this one is pretty tame, but they will believe what they want to believe. After all, every live event will have a dead crowd, and every taped event will have fake cheers/boos on it's broadcast.

After all, every live event will have a dead crowd, and every taped event will have fake cheers/boos on it's broadcast. Never did I say that all live crowds are dead. That's going to vary from crowd to crowd, and show to show. However, the majority of the taped broadcasts are dubbed in places, and it's painfully obvious from their constant use of the same sound clips. Not for the duration of the show, mind you, but definitely in spots where they're trying to get someone (or an angle) over that isn't getting the live reactions that they want. That's all I've been pointing out. I'm not some IWC conspiracy theorist like a couple of you seem to think.

I'm sorry if you were mistaken guyofownage, I was not attacking you at all.
I was just poking fun at the posts that appear like clockwork every week in the Raw/Smackdown threads.

Don't worry about it. I was just a little annoyed that everyone was jumping to conclusions in regards to my argument. But then again, this is an internet wrestling forum, so I suppose that's the risk you take.

I wish they would STOP doing it during Smackdown.
That stupid 'Raaaaaaaaaah!' noise they play is getting ridiculous now. It just sticks out so much.

Nah, on smackdown every single cheer for the last 8 years has sounded the exact same, you know with the tad female high pitch sounding cheer as the cheer dies thing, hard to explain but it sounds like theyve used the same cheering forever. It just sounds so unnatural to.
