This seems to be an unending debate. The general consensus seems to be that TNA has done a far better job booking its women's division, particularly Awesome Kong. However, opinions nonetheless seem to be polarized. So I just wanted to lay down what I think to be a pretty fair assessment and final word on the subject.
Right now, WWE's women's roster is by far the stronger. They have women's matches going on each show, and have almost double the number of women working for them that TNA does. They also have far more exposue, with women appearing on magazine covers and in commercials.
While TNA's women's roster is smaller, and hence has fewer possibilities at this time, they have managed to strike a delicate balance that WWE has pretty well gone overboard on. They have sexed up the role of the ladies with calendars, DVD's, photoshoots, and the like, but have not gone so over the top as to have one of their women pose naked in Playboy.
Also, one of the biggest weakness of WWE's women's roster is one of TNA's strengths- not all of WWE's women are actually wrestlers. While they are being put in the ring, a lot of them are obviously inexperienced and poor performers between the ropes. TNA has managed to, for the most part, select women with some kind of background, be it in the indies, Mexico, Japan, or WWE. They have also managed to build a more diverse roster, with technical grapplers, high flyers, and monster hosses.
But the biggest difference, I think, that favors TNA is that WWE's women's division has almost always been a one woman show. They generally select one woman who gets pushed far above the others and carries the torch for the entire roster. From Sable to Lita to Chyna to Trish Stratus, and currently Candice and Beth. While Beth is the camp, lets face it, Maria or Mickie James are not likely to beat her for the title. The most likely scenario is her holding onto it till Candice comes back, then the two of them trading it back and forth.
TNA, on the other hand, has built a far more balanced looking list of women. While Gail Kim is the champ, and it seems inevitable that Kong will eventually hold the title, all the women look just as likely to hold the belt at some time or another. The best move they made, I think, was making Gail the first champ instead of Kong. When Kong came in everyone seemed to immediately have their minds made up that she would be champ, but instead they surprised us. WWE's women's division tends to favor one woman over the others, and the results are sadly predictable.
And that is all I got to say about that.
