When PPV first started, the WWE and WCW had events on different nights and both companies came to realize that Sunday at 8 was the best time to run them. As far as the WWE goes, they have run PPVs on every night of the week except for Fridays and have even tinkered with the time of day on Sundays.
As far as Saturday nights go, since it has been mentioned several times already, the WWE used to run the Rumble on that night.

The 1st few Wrestlemanias were held on Sundays . 4pm i think.
As far as it being helf earlier so kids can get to bed early for school the next day, then the same could be said about Monday Night Raw.
i just miss Saturday wrestling be in at 6:05 pm on TBS or midnight on WOR

The only thing Sunday's are useful for is so Batista can get whatever it is he is needing, back. Found it! Knew someone would say it. Now, I'm smiling.

So keep the Sunday PPVs. And why change something that has worked for about 20 years now?!?!?! They had Survivor Series before on Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Night. They also had some of the early Summerslams on Monday Night. So other nights could work. But those were in the days when (a) PPV barely existed, so there wasn't much else competing with them, and (b) there wasn't an oversaturation of big time wrestling events every single week, a PPV every single month and an WWE On Demand pay service meaning you could watch the product every single day. I'd absolutely love to see the SurSeries back on Thanksgiving Eve/Nights, but it's just not gonna happen with the current business mindset.
