It would be great if thye'd bring this gimmick back somehow. It doesn't have to be Chavo to do it. I think that's where the 7 Year Rule comes into play... How many years has it been now? But yeah, I'm with Loki on this.

I hate how some people automatically get all down on any comedy gimmick. Some people used to say the same thing constantly about Gregory Helms, and how he was being held back by being saddled with the Hurricane gimmick. Well, guess what, neither Chavo or Helms were pushed down by their gimmicks, and neither was pushed higher without them.
Kerwin was a great gimmick, and Chavo did a great job playing it. It was hardly as racist as some people claim either. How was it racist? Chavo claims his race is holding him down, and decides he's going to become 'white' instead. It was so ridiculous you couldn't possibly be offended by it if you watched it. Again, I hate how everytime an angle or gimmick relates to racial issues it's automatically slammed as being racist and offensive by some people.
It was a great gimmick, Chavo played it well. I can understand why it was dropped when it was, as it was only right to honor Eddie's memory by reverting to the Guerrero name. If it was done right, I wouldn't be opposed to Chavo doing another run as Kerwin. Afterall if Vince can go back to crazy Vince, why can't Chavo become despondent enough to revert to Kerwin again?

I liked this gimmick until they turned him into a racist.

If a white guy played the character as an arrogant cocky preppie, like Nowinski, it could have worked.
With a Hispanic guy trying supposedly to "be white" and making comments based on racial issues and social mobility it was doomed to failure.

His music was beyond awesome.
"I wake up every morning Can't wait to embrace the day I take my coffee by the pool I pass my picket fence and gaze across my new-mowed lawn I never thought my life could be this good..
I have a brand new car I drive it to my country club It's in my gated neighbourhood I'm swinging in my tennis whites While caddies keep my sticks in line I never thought my life could be this good
Time to leave my past behind And all the fools that I once knew Now I'm clean inside Each day I get better, can't you see? I guess that you can see I hang out with a privileged few Society's elite with blood that's blue Private schools and soccer moms And living life the way we should I never thought my life could be this good..."

It was rather impressive, although at the time I was only moderately impressed.
Whenever this subject comes up, the first thing I think is that when Chavo's move to Raw and gimmick change was announced at WWE.com, all the news sites over the next week reported that his profile was the most viewed thing on the WWE website in recent memory. It got a lot of heads turning, but like most things WWE it faded away and just became part of the neglected midcard.

I loved this gimmick...hell, it gave Nick Nemeth something to do for a while. That's gotta be worth something.

I wish I could find the the full song... Well, I don't have the full song, but I do have an edit that runs around 1:40, and it's the longest version available. Message me if you're interested.

^That's the one I have. It's so annoying that there was never a full version released.

If a white guy played the character as an arrogant cocky preppie, like Nowinski, it could have worked. With a Hispanic guy trying supposedly to "be white" and making comments based on racial issues and social mobility it was doomed to failure. The entire point of the gimmick was that he was Mexican. What's funny about a white preppy guy being a racist? The point was that Chavo felt he was being underused because he was Mexican. So he decided to be as "white" as possible, utilizing his vision of "whiteness", which is where the comedy is. And it's not fair to say the gimmick didn't work - it was doing fine, and was dropped immediately after Eddie's death.

It would be a heel character, not a comedy character.
A satirical commentary character based on the social issue of glass ceilings and minorities was always going to be beyond the writing capabilities of Stephanie and Vince McMahon.
Remember Muhammed Hassan? First he was an Arab American with a very valid point of contention to speak of....but that didn't last long and he eventually became a quasi-Jihadist.
And not to forget Eugene. The character who was supposedly going to be a person facing challenges in his life (IE: disabled) who's dreams were going to come true, didn't last beyond a week before he was turned into a comedy retard.
WWE creative should never attempt any character with a deeper meaning, because they simply aren't talented enough to pull it off.

I was kind of upset about the first name they picked for him. "Kerwin?" Why not something like "Chad" and keep it close to his original name? Then again, it was probably intentionally made drastically different so he could really distance himself from the Guerrero gimmick. Then again, I guess stuff like this shouldn't really bother me.

HRH... you actually *bought* that crap about Hassan and Eugene? Don't you realize WWE does that special press release every time they debut a character that is likely to get all the overly sensitive types all in a tizz. Then, since the character has only just debuted, anyone complaining looks like a total ass for not wanting WWE to allow a very special person to achieve his dreams or to let an Arab-American put across his valid social views.
Personaly I have no problem with comedy retards and evil foreigners. They're both proud wrestling traditions. I wouldn't have mind seeing the versions being put forth in those press releases either, but I doubt that was ever the intention anyway.
Anyways... Kerwin was great. I liked how he always referred to Chavo in the third person. Would have liked to have seen him perhaps evolve into a split personality ala: three faces of Foley. I always love split personality gimmicks.

As good as Hurricane's is... nothing, NOTHING can ever beat Dude Love. C'mon, the fact he wasn't a superhero, yet his tron video still featured him flying through the air just for the hell of it makes the Dude video freakin' awesome. And the running through the fields section is officially the reason why Foley was declared as God. True, look it up. www.youtube.com/watch?v=daNZYmYUvjQ
