They work a much lighter schedule, the majority of the roster get paid a lot more money and they're looked after a lot better than they used to be, but it seems every months some name is on the injured list for a long long long time and I really don't remember this being the case.
I don't remember Savage or Hogan having eight months off for torn quads, I don't remember Bret Hart having to be missing for the best part of the year because of a ripped pectoral muscle, so why do they drop like flies these days?
If the answer is "they do more dangerous stuff in the ring" well, not many injuries are caused by the diving off ladders, it's usually the walking across the ring or something equally tame which causes these career threatening muscle injuries but why is this only a recent (relatively) phenomenon. I can't remember any of the top names from the past having to sit out months of action because of injury.
So is it that the wrestlers are poorly conditioned these days, are they careless, are they too pampered these days that they're prone to injury more or were the guys in the past more willing to work through the pain?

Note how most of the old guys barely have leg movement or worse. It's more medical science understands stuff better.
The same can be said for any sport or dangerous activity. Like say hockey, they didn't get put on the injured list for having something silly like a "concussion".

They're not as drugged up as the old school guys.

Modern wrestlers tend to be younger and less experienced than the ones from long ago. Those wrestlers would work everyday and their body was likely able to take the abuse a lot more due to conditioning and with more knowledge about how to bump right. Also, the style was a lot slower and less high risk (these were the days when a vertical suplex was a killer). But even so, they were likely more injured than the guys today but since there weren't contracts and no one else is paying the hospital bills, they tended to mask the pain with alcohol and painkillers

It probably varies from person to person. You can't really generalize the whole group.
For example:
Is Randy Orton tough than Bruiser Brody. Hell no. Is Samoa Joe tougher than Lex Luger. Probably.

Steroids cause muscle tears Were nobody on those in the 80's then? Did Warrior or Hogan move around the ring as much as Triple H or Batista?

Did Warrior or Hogan move around the ring as much as Triple H or Batista? Warrior travelled to the ring quicker than Batista or HHH move around it And how long did he wrestle for in the ring on average?

I don't remember Savage or Hogan having eight months off for torn quads no, but Hogan had about 3 months off after getting 3 Quake-Splashes on the Brother Love show. Reno Riggins was back the next week on WWF Challenge

I also think painkillers and the like were also more available at the time.
I believe Raven said that he took a lot of painkillers daily due to the business.

I'm willing to bet any amount of money that steroids were worse in the 80's than they are today. The Warlord anybody? Don Muraco? Hulk Hogan?

If steroids cause injury than most of the names mentioned should barely have been able to walk for large periods of time.

I'm willing to bed in the 80s they didn't either announce injuries as much, nor did they mention them to their boss in case they got dropped as dead weight.
