I stopped watching wrestling from about 1999 - 2005, and am still in the process of catching up with the past.
I've seen in multiple threads people complaining about how horrible the 10th anniverary episode was.... but why exactly was it horrible?
Were there any special guests? What went on?

The rock got booed...which in retrospect wasn't that bad since it was the preamble to hollywood rock.
And stone Cold was mentioned alot in a negative light despite being the raw superstar of the decade.

I just remember Edge closing the show as the super-face, by calling everyone on stage to thank the fans. He was really, really awkward in a nice guy face role - I'm glad they came to their senses on that.

It wasn't a RAW thing like next week. It was like the SLammys and was an award show held at the WWE NY.

Austin won Raw Superstar of the Decade........and wasnt there.
Foley won an award........and wasnt there.
Rock was there..........via satalite.
It was basically just a really bad awards show. The only good part was the "It looked Good on Paper" segment, where they showed highlights of all the Wrestlecrappy gimmicks of the past.

It was stupid how a lot of it they were hyping up the Royal Rumble. The best part was the Wrestlecrap part though, that was brilliant.

I think this was around the time Austin and Debra had their troubles. If not, then it was one of the many times JR was on the outs with the company and Austin and Foley didn't want to show up.

I remember Sunny beat out Sable and Trish as the "Best Diva" or something. That was pretty awesome. Everything else I'm drawing a blank on, as this was around the time where I was beginning to just quit watching wrestling altogether following the Invasion disaster and when Triple H was the focus of every RAW, every week.

No, it was Trish beating out Sable, Lita, Sunny, and I believe Chyna. People cried foul over victories by people like Trish since they were popular at the time, but did not exemplify the rich history of Raw. That said, I think a Trish victory if the ceremony were held today would go over really well.

It sucked from what I remember, most of the people who won weren't there. Nothing of significance and it was mostly Royal Rumble hype as well as mentioned before.

Basically was a really really really bad award show. Kane wore a suit....and a mask......and used the insult "Assclown!". Could have been a heck of a lot better if you ask me.

It was just a lame bait and switch award show.
See WWE had been hyping up for weeks that big names like Austin, Foley, and Rock would be at the show. Foley was never even invited and was buried by Vince anyway. Rock appeared "via satellite" (it was a pretaped promo) and the crowd knew it and refused to play along with his antics. As mentioned earlier, it actually led to the awesome Hollywood Rock.
And Austin had been hyped up as THE special guest. WWE told us he would definately be there! Of course it was bait and switch, with Austin being somewhat buried. So it basically was extending the hype for his return a month later.
The awards were BS too, as everything that won had gotten big or occured within 3-4 months of the show. For example, I think Trish won Diva of the Decade (when she was just starting to become big) beating out Sunny, Sable, even Chyna. Match of the Decade was the lame TLC4 match that had occured 2 months before the show aired. I think it beat out matches like Bret/1-2-3 Kid and the Radicalz/DX vs. Too Cool/Cactus Jack/Rock 10 man tag match.
Overall it was just a terrible waist of time.

I think next week will be kinda like the raw homecoming or something. WWE goes all out, but only a couple times a year now

Not much of note at all.
I think keeping everything in kayfabe kind of hurt it.

That was pretty much the only good part. I loved when Stacy was introducing the video, mentioned a dentist with bad teeth, and the crowd just yells out "Kane!".

The only thing I remember about it was:
Rock being televised from a different location and getting the ever loving crap booed out of him.
Trish being the diva of the decade.
Austin being the superstar of the decade & HHH stomping off w/Flair.
Edge's super sappy thank you speech at the end.
That and they had some tributes to the deceased if I remember correctly. Overall it wasn't anything that great.

There was a very nice tribute package for deceased wrestlers, though there were quite a few wrestlers who had performed on Raw who were not included, while others were included though they were not from the Raw era. Desite heavy rumors that lots of former wrestlers (major and minor) would return, no big names or even small names (other than Mae, Moolah, and Blassie, who were in the audience) from the Raw period made special appearances, though the Rock did a taped interview. It was an underwhelming special.
