If the Internet was what it is now back in early 1998, we would have crucified Mike Tyson going to WWF worse that this, and that turned out really damn good for them.
They did good with Brian Urlacher and that got some good pub, so this might be good for them as well.
I'll reserve judgement until I see how it goes down on TV.

I'm guessing that OJ Simpson, Paris Hilton, Castro, Charles Manson and Satan must have all been unavailable.

"The Alpha Male" Pacman Jones...
Hey, the last football player in TNA got a decent push that never resulted in a World Title run...how about just giving him the same gimmick?

Tyson was a far bigger star, and Vince wasn't bringing in a screw-up during a time (the past month) when many news and sports shows have devoted an insane amount of negative mainstream coverage to pro-wrestling due to the Benoit tragedy and drug scandal. Plus, Mike Tyson was arguably the most dominant athlete in the 1980s. Pacman Jones is just a random NFL knucklehead. And with the Michael Vick thing in the news, Pacman's even been eclipsed as the NFL's top knucklehead. There's more money for TNA to make in keeping talents like Samoa Joe, Homicide, and Alex Shelley happy than there is in signing some guy that will only bring them bad pub. I'm a TNA apologist. But this signing is pointless.

I'm sure all the wrestlers in the back will love Pacman. Ya know, since he shot and paralyzed a former pro wrestler. Seriously, this is exactly what pro wrestling doesn't need. We just had one wrestler kill himself and his family, and now TNA signs a man who has one of the worst reputations in pro sports. I could be wrong, but isn't he on some kind of probabtion? If I were his lawyer, the last thing I would want Pacman doing is wrestling. A sport thats public image has taken a MAJOR dive in the past few weeks. Just goes to show that TNA will do anything for publicity. Hey, atleast they aren't pushing a former WWE wrestler. Uh, Pacman didn't shoot anybody. One of his friends did. I don't think this is going to be that bad of a move. I mean, if he stays within the lines of the law for the next year and takes training seriously, he could be good. Don't rule Jones out, he's a natural athlete who, if he were never a football player, would have just the kind of athleticism and charisma to be a successful wrestler.

msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7073506Worrick Robinson, an attorney for Jones, said Pacman and TNA are talking about "some kind of role" in the company and told The Tennessean that his client "won't be wrestling" and wouldn't play a villain. Courtesy of Fight Opinion... There are two reports tonight (here and here) that troubled NFL star Adam “Pacman” Jones will become a professional wrestler for the TNA promotion. The great irony in all of this is a connect-the-dots situation. Pacman’s attorney is Manny Arora, who is also the attorney of Dr. Phil Astin, who was Chris Benoit’s personal medical doctor. I’m not making any of this up. Another attorney for Pacman Jones, Worrick Robinson, is quoted in The Tennessean claiming that Jones will be a babyface. Think about the mainstream media coverage for this debacle. Pacman Jones, a guy who a lot of the sports media has portrayed as a thug. Then, TNA signs the guy and the guy has the same lawyer as Chris Benoit’s personal doctor who was indicted by the Feds. So, now TNA is going to be associated directly with Jones and indirectly linked to Chris Benoit. During the entire Benoit tragedy, the media coverage has completely ignored TNA and given them a free pass. However, TNA now opens themselves up through the backdoor for some real hard media attacks. Look at the absurdity of this decision. The only decision that might be more absurd is Hustle considering bringing in OJ Simpson for their Hustle Mania event at Yokohama Arena in late November. TNA airs on Spike TV, and the network is close to giving the wrestling promotion a two-hour weekly Thursday slot (resulting in The Ultimate Fighter being moved to Wednesday nights). It was also Spike TV who was blamed by Dana White for booking Noah Thomas vs. Marlon Sims (the two TUF contestants who got into their own street fight) before UFC canceled the fight. In other words, I guess we shouldn’t be shocked that TNA’s move to acquire Pacman Jones is not receiving condemnation from Spike TV — yet.

This isn't good publicity. Like it or not "real sports" absolutely hates wrestling, so listening to ESPN Radio this morning and Sirius NFL Radio, TNA is now the butt end of nearly every other joke. As one commentator put it, Pacman Jones is, in the grander schemes of the NFL, a relative nobody whose known for his previous run-ins with the law rather than his performance on the field. He has no fans, at least no fanbase worth mentioning, and a large population of NFL fans either despise him and don't want anything to do with him or just frankly don't care and won't pay attention to him either way. There's always a case of a quick ratings boost because of curiousity, but this will be forgotten by tomorrow when the joke of the day has run its course.
Simply put, ESPN and all major media outlets rip on wrestling for it's staged nature and will likely stop talking about it once they've squeezed every joke they possibly can out of it. Pacman Jones isn't popular, so there's going to be no major ratings boost. All this does is make a further mockery of professional wrestling and likely keeps a few more people off of shows, already a major issue in TNA.
Also, for those saying he has natural charisma.....listen to him on an interview. He struggles stringing words together.

Also, as an addition to my previous sports, no one is saying "Pacman is going to TNA Wrestling on Spike TV, aired on television at....."
Everything has been, "Pacman Jones further makes a mockery of himself and the team that drafted him by trying his hand at wrasslin' with a small-Nashville based outfit."
No one cares what TNA is, only that it's hilariously stupid.

As much as I hate the outside celebrity involvement in wrestling -- and you know TNA will force this man into the Main Event -- I think they'll get some viewers due to curiosity. It's a chance for TNA to grow, and I want them to sooooo badly. But if the Benoit connection is true...

Anyone know how long the deal is for?
I'll wait till it hits the screen, but chances are it'll be midcard status, like mostly every other sports or celebrity that was in TNA. I doubt he's touching the main event.

I doubt he's touching the main event. yeah, that's the upside. They kept the Storm/Wycheck thing to the midcard, I don't see this being majorly huge. But I am sick of TNA management thinking the only way to get any press is to bring in useless celebs and sports stars. I'm as done with it as I am with the WWE doing it.

I bet they didn't intend on it being main event until they will see all the internet talk about it already. they'll probably give him a huge build up for his initial appearances and such. EW
