I was just re reading Foley's book a little, and there's tons of hate for the wrestling abilities of Marc Mero aka Johnny B. Badd.... I don't really remember anything horrendous from him, but I was young and a big time Sable mark at the time, so who knows. I guess the question is, what was so bad? Any examples of stuff that absolutely sucked?

Maybe his mullet was radiating hate.

He sucked hardcore at first, because he was basically a local bodybuilder that Dusty Rhodes hired because he thought he looked like Little Richard with muscles. Seriously. The fact that Mero was walking around looking like Little Richard before he had that gimmick in WCW is weird in it's own right. So, he was super green, but they pushed him at an annoying rate compared to his skills. He did get alot better and added a ton of high spots to his offense, but once he got a clue, he suffered injuries that pretty much ruined him. I thought he was pretty good at the tail end of his WCW run/entrance into WWF. He really tried to improve, which I always respected, because many guys who get early pushes before they know what they're doing never get better.

She did try to get better and actually did but then the injuries came. Of course she didn't last as long as Mero. But I respect her still.

Sometimes some of the things in Foley's books just make me shake my head. He has a slightly inflated sense of worth in my opinion (and before someone jumps on this, I AM a fan of Foley's).
I always liked Mero.

I liked Johnny B. Badd, he put in alot of effort to get that gimmick over. His work as the "Wildman" fell way short, and his "Marvelous" persona was even worse. I just hate how pretentious Mero has become, he was in the business for what.....7 or 8 years and all the sudden, he acts like his is a legitimate Wrestling legend. His work, was pretty decent but his mouth and seemingly hateful attitude towards the business now a days, is disappointing. Especially, since he's probably a legitimate millionaire because of it.

I liked Mero at the end of his WCW time/Wildman era. I watched his shoot interview and think he is a good guy just trying to help the wrestlers. Of course, some of it's exaggerated, but if it means it will help the wrestlers then I am all for it.
Seriously, if you saw a whole of people who knew and worked with die before they were all 40 or 50 what would you do?

There is absolutely no way to reform my business, there is no way to change it.......we accept it and push forward. We do it, not because we are the Animals & Bullies, people portray us to be, we do it because we love the atmosphere and (nearly) everything surrounding it. Where else do you get paid to hang out with your friends nightly and goof around (when the situation calls for it). I am a Bouncer, its what defines me as a Person.

But wrestling is just a tad bit different.

I don't think Mero was that bad at all. Not the greatest, but a lot better than a great number of wrestlers out there. Certainly better than a lot of guys who get main event pushes.
But, honestly, who is Mick Foley to criticize anyone on their WRESTLING abilities?

It's the ability to draw the desired reaction from the crowd through in-ring movement.

Then it shouldn't be referred to as WRESTLING if doing ridiculous stunts qualifies. Sorry, it does. And always has. Before all this "technique" existed, that's what it was a big spectacular fighting stunt. And if a wrestler couldn't get people into whatever it was they were doing if it were the old days, they'd be out the front door real quick like.

Besides, what parts of wrestling aren't ridiculous stunts? Even bumping is a ridicoulous stunt because it is actually dangerous if botched in many moves.

So then you condone the stunt that killed Owen Hart?
Well, regardless, I don't think Foley could hold a candle to Mero inside the ring -- with or without the foolish stunts. So, back to this post's question: Mero was fine in the ring.

So then you condone the stunt that killed Owen Hart? . Way to jump the gun, there. Mero was french vanilla ice cream (a step above regular vanilla) and Mick Foley is/was chocolate tornado ice cream.

Johnny B. Badd was one of my favorite wrestlers in WCW. Then he went to the E and it all went downhill from there. As much as I liked his ability, the dude is coming out and trying to gain some fame and money due to the Benoit incident.
No offense to Mero, but there are more important wrestling personalities to talk to than him.
