1) It will get better. They have been in the crapper before (see Rhodes, Dusty) and have bounced back alright. 2) Christian Coalition. 3) Unlike the WWE anymore, TNA doesn't always suck out loud. Sometimes they suck softly... you know... like they're humming to themselves. Yeah, the Dusty Rhodes booking of some great TNA PPVs sure was terrible right? I maintain that Turning Point 2004, Final Resolution 2005 & Against All Odds 2005 were fantastic events. I don't see why everyone craps all over Dusty's booking of TNA. Could it be that brilliant AJ Styles/ Christopher Daniels feud? Or the fact that guys like DDP & Kevin Nash were showing up & putting on better matches than they had in years? It was only about Destination X 2005 that Dusty's booking became counter-productive. Right now, I'd rather have Dusty in charge than Dutch Mantell & Vinny Ru! What was wrong with the Tenay/Borash/D'Amore team that was churning out one great PPV after another anyway?

Yeah, the Dusty Rhodes booking of some great TNA PPVs sure was terrible right? Right. Dusty's booking brought... 1) Phi Delta Slam 2) Trytan 3) Dustin Rhodes (the first time) 4) Lockdown 5) Scott Hall & Kevin Nash wrestling in Elvis jumpsuits. 6) The return of Johnny B. Badd (Rhodes crony/invention) 7) The booking of himself as the commissioner of TNA, as a redneck hot chick magnet, running TNA out of the back of a pickup truck. Yee. Haw. Yep. THOSE were the days.

Even though I agree with you that the Dusty/D'Amore era was great, a lot of people will tell you that they were only pulling in .5 and .6 ratings back then whereas now they are pulling in double that. Of course people forget that TNA used to be on a small network (FSN) with the crappiest time slot in the world (Friday at 4PM??). I will go out on a limb and say that if you took some of the old Impact broadcasts from the FSN days and played them now on Spike at 9PM, they would do well. Maybe even better then TNA now.

Phi Delta Slam & Trytan were a waste of space true. But how long were they even around for? I can recall one show with Phi Delta Slam & only a handful of appearances by Trytan. Dustin Rhodes actually had decent matches for the first time in ages (against Kid Kash & Raven). That first Lockdown PPV was pretty good & even though they overdid it with the stipulations, it managed to provide satisfying action in every match Hall & Nash actually put in an effort to wrestle. Johnny B. Badd, like Trytan & Phi Delta Slam didn't hang around long. Rhodes was chosen as commissioner by a fan poll. And, what, you expect the Dusty Rhodes character to be sitting in an office wearing a suit & tie? Trinity & Tracy being all over him did, indeed, stretch suspension of disbelief a bit much.

I will go out on a limb and say that if you took some of the old Impact broadcasts from the FSN days and played them now on Spike at 9PM, they would do well. Maybe even better then TNA now. This is the November 19, 2004 TNA IMPACT! on FSN (Dusty booking, and I could not see these matches drawing in more viewers during prime time). BACKSTAGE: The Kings of Wrestling attacked Shark Boy, D-Ray 3000 and Amazing Red (who was smashed face-first into a wall).. NON (WORLD) TITLE MATCH: Jeff Jarrett defeated defeated J-Rocc.. INTERVIEW: Shane Douglas & Triple X (Elix Skipper & Christopher Daniels).. TAG MATCH: America's Most Wanted vs The NYC (Glen Gilbertti & Johnny Swinger w/Trinity) was a NO CONTEST.. -Jeff Jarrett was pacing around at ringside until AMW abandoned the match and attacked the World champion! -Kevin Nash & Scott Hall got out of their seats and came to Jeff Jarrett's rescue.. -The brawl ended up outside, where AMW were thrown into the Six-sided Cage for a beatdown from Triple X.. TAG MATCH: Team Canada (Petey Williams & Bobby Roode w/Scott D'Amore) defeated Jerrelle Clark & Mikey Batts.. MATCH: Johnny B. Badd defeated Raven after a ref-bump and DDP's interference.. INTERVIEW: Shane Douglas & Diamond Dallas Page.. -Diamond Dallas Page claimed Raven has been in his mind for 2? years and the rent was due.. MATCH: Abyss defeated Kevin Devine after a Black Hole Slam and then a POUNCE! -Abyss threatened to use the bag of thumbtacks on Kevin Devine but Monty Brown made the save! INTERVIEW: Shane Douglas & Raven.. -Raven said the real heat should be between DDP and Erik Watts, not DDP and Raven.. IN THE RING: Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes.. -Dusty Rhodes talked about the upcoming Turning Point Pay Per View on December 5. Rhodes also added that the team who loses the Six-sided Cage must split up forever! Dusty Rhodes address the "Kings of Wrestling" and warned them that 'someone' was here to confront them.. 6-MAN TAG: Kid Kash & Michael Shane & Frankie Kazarian defeated Sonjay Dutt & Sonny Siaki & Hector Garza.. -Kid Kash used a coconut to knock Sonny Siaki out cold and score the pinfall victory.. -Referee Mike Posey spotted the foreign weapon and decided to restart the match.. -Kid Kash simply got the coconut again and whacked Sonny Siaki out with it AGAIN for the win! -Shark Boy came down to protest, leading to a big brawl between everybody in the ring.. -The Kings of Wrestling appeared and took out Shark Boy, Hector Garza & Sonjay Dutt with their finishers.. -AJ Styles & Jeff Hardy hit the ring along side --- the returning --- Randy "Macho Man" Savage!! -Randy Savage knocked out Jeff Jarrett and called the Kings out for a match at the next PPV.. -Jeff Jarrett got the microphone and accepted the challenge.. END SHOW. I have NO IDEA how this is supposed to be better than now. In fact, there's so much going on, stipulations being added, and dumb finishes that the board would erupt in "OMG, this is TOO CONFUSING" posts.

I picked that one because I actually remembered it being pretty entertaining (Hall/Nash/Savage). We'd crap all over that show now.

I dunno, I remember marking for Nash re-enacting what he did to Rey at Disney on Nitro throwing Red into the trailer almost the same way. I was really into the X-Division at that point, nowadays not so much.

Back then, I think every match bar the main event was jobber squashes. But that helped establish guys like Monty Brown & Abyss as real "killers". If the matches were Abyss going over, say, Jay Lethal, it would cause outrage (perhaps rightfully so).

Oh well hopefully once Jay Lethal gets the belt back things'll pick up *does not hold breath*

1.) Join in the fun of the post-Impact bash threads 2.) Join in the fun of the post-TNA PPV bash threads 3.) Join in the fun of the post-TNA Signs New Talent bash threads nope, because then you get asked "if you hate it so much, why do you watch it?", so then you quit watching it, and start bashing it, and someone asks "how can you bash something that you don't even watch?", thus, giving us wrestling's greatest paradox.

I wish TNA would release a best of the weekly PPV era DVD set, and then a best of the FSN/internet era DVD set In November, TNA is releasing TNA: Year 1, about the Weekly PPV era. So, there's that. Plus, Don West's bringing back the original DVDs from TNA, the original X-Division one, the original best of the Title matches, and the original bloodiest brawls.
