Why did he attack Rougeau in the locker room in the first place?

Probably because Dynamite Kid used to pull that crap all the time, it seems.
He was/is kind of a prick.

Still couldn't get a clear answer but it sounded like it might have started when Jacques asked Davey Boy to switch matches with him so that he could leave early & make the plane back home to visit his family which he hasn't seen in a few weeks.

That sounds right, the Rougeaus were booked to go on after the Bulldogs but they looked at the plane schedules and noticed if they switched with the Bulldogs and went on earlier, they could catch a flight home to spend time with the family, and no matter when the Bulldogs went on they would not be able to get a flight home;they went, explained it to Davey & Dynamite, and asked to switch spots on the card,at the time both Bulldogs said it was no problem and the switch occurred. Apparently Davey Boy was ok with it but Dynamite felt insulted and held a grudge,a few weeks later Jacques was playing cards with the guys when Dynamite and the Hart Family come in;Dynamite pretty much sneaks up on Jacques, sucker punches him and beats him up then for a long while afterward basically bullies Jacques around(constantly taunting him over the beatdown, insulting him,and just generally picking on and being a serious d*** to the guy). Finally,Jacques decided enough was enough and started practicing his punch until he could throw a pretty decent shot, waited until he had an opportunity where Dynamite would be defenseless(as Dynamite did to him),then loaded up his fist with a roll of quarters(on his father's advice),hit Dynamite in the face, and knocked him straight out.

yeah, I'm sure there was a alot of shit that built up to it. I think personally Jacques and his pride made it worse.
Strangely enough, that was my first show... I was only 2 years old and don't remember much except seeing the ring, and Jake "The Snake" Roberts, but it was in Rockford, IL my hometown. Years later, I became a huge Dynamite fan because of his in-ring innovation. But he's probably the biggest dick in the business.

I've watched Rougeau talk for over 30 straight minutes on video about this subject, and I still can't make any sense out of it. Guess it's good he eventually stuck up for himself, but he smurfed Dynamite up, and only because Dynamite smurfed him up for no reason.
Even though Dynamite started it, hearing Rougeau talk about this made it sound like 1987 WWF summer tours were the equivalent of a bunch of feral six-year olds left unsupervised at summer camp.

I would've done the exact same thing. You have to call guys like Dynamite on their crap, or they'll walk all over you.

From Dynamite's book:
"I'll be honest, I never liked the Rougeaus. Because we were both babyface tag teams, we'd never wrestled them before. I'd seen a lot of their matches against the Hart Foundation, which the Rougeaus won more or less all the time. They were arrogant and ignorant, and by the time we arrived at Madison Square Garden, Davey and me had agreed there was no way either of those two pricks were going to beat us. I told Pat Patterson the same thing. Bear in mind, Pat is French Canadian, but he said, "OK. You've got 20 minutes."
And we gave the Rougeaus a fantastic 20 minutes. In spite of a lot of pain in my back, I wrestled hard that night, made them look great, and went to a time-limit draw."
"But I got along great with Curt (Hennig) - like me, he enjoyed a good prank. But when he played one on the Rougeaus, it backfired on me and turned into something a lot more serious.
We were in Miami, Florida for a house show, and as I've already told you, leaving your clothes unattended while you were in the ring could be risky when certain people were about. A lot of wrestlers had got wise to this and had somebody watch out for their stuff while they were wrestling. And that was what the Rougeaus did. They asked Curt Hennig to keep an eye on their clothes. While they were gone, Curt found a pair of scissors and cut their shirts and pants to ribbons. It had Bulldog stamped all over it, so just before they got back, Curt shot off into the toilet. They walked in, saw their clothes and shouted for Curt. He called back that he was on the toilet. So straight away, they put two and two together and made five, they decided that it was me and Davey Boy Smith. Bear in mind, I knew nothing about this because I wasn't even in the same dressing room.
They started cursing at us and saying things about what they were going to do to us, and sure enough, word soon got back to us that our names were mud with the Rougeaus. I still didn't know why at this point, so I thought, "Right." I walked next door into their dressing room, where they all sat playing cards. And I admit, Jacques had his back to me, but all I did was give him a flat-hander, straight across the ear.
He jumped up and shouted, "What are you f***ing playing at Dynamite?" Then he turned and tried to dive at me, low, for a double leg, but as he went down, I got on top of him, turned him over and hanged him twice in the face. Then Raymond came over and tried to interfere. He put his hand across, saying, "Dynamite, stop, Jacques has had enough."
I said, "Move your hand, this has nothing to do with you." He wouldn't move. So I knocked Raymond out. I'd laid the Rougeaus flat out on the floor. That should have been the end of it. By mistake, they thought I'd cut their clothes up, which was no big deal because I'd done it to a lot of wrestlers, but Curt Hennig later admitted it was him. So as far as I was concerned we were straight."

I split this up since there's a lot of it:
"Two weeks later we were in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to do a TV Taping. I'd seen the Rougeaus a few times since Miami, but they'd never said a word to me, or Davey."
"We broke for lunch, had something to eat, and then one by one the wrestlers were called back for the next interviews. As usual, I was the last one out of the canteen - Davey went back ahead of me.
I grabbed a cup of coffee, lit a cigarette, and started walking back down the corridor to the studio. Ahead of me I could see the Rougeaus talking to Pat Patterson in the corridor. Jacques was leaning against one wall, Raymond was on the other, doing the talking. I had the cigarette in one hadn, cup of coffee in the other, and as I got nearer, I remember thinking to myself, "No, they're not going to do me here," because Pat, who was the foreman, was there.
Don't get me wrong, if Pat hadn't been there, I would have approached them in a totally different manner. But I thought, "No, I'll be all right here," and steeped through, when - bang - Jacques smashed me in the mouth with a knuckle-duster. I heard the crunch as four teeth went there and then. My mouth was ripped to shreds, inside and out, and there was blood mixed with pieces of gum, just pouring down the front of me. That first shot had knocked me dizzy, but I still managed to think. Instinctively, I knew I couldn't go down and I needed to back myself against the wall. Everything was a blur, and somewhere in the background I could hear Pat shouting, "Stop, stop," and then Jacques hit me again, maybe two or three times. I was ready to blast him back, when I saw Ray out of the corner of my eye, about to blind side me. For that split second, I thought that was it, I'd had it. I couldn't take the two of them. Then I heard Bad News Brown shout, "What's going on?" He'd heard the commotion and come out of the dressing room into the corridor. Bad News Brown saved my life, because if he hadn't appeared when he did, I think they would have killed me. The Rougeaus didn't hang out. When they saw Bad News, they took off like sprinters, down the corridor and out of the building."
"I started cleaning myself up. Pat Patterson came in the dressing room with some money. He said, "Here, go to the hospital and get yourself stitched up. But just tell them you've been in an accident."
"I got back to the studio and straight away Pat Patterson said, "Vince wants to see you in his office." This was maybe an hour or so after the incident, so I went in, and I think he really was shocked when he saw the state I was in. But the first thing he said to me was, "Goddamn Tom. I can't believe you didn't go down.
I said, "No I didn't." Then I told Vince I was going to sort those two pricks out.
He said, "No, don't do that. They might call somebody." He was being serious; they knew people in Montreal who could see me off. But he said, "Leave this with me and I'll sort something out."

Montreal Mob connections. Maybe they're the ones who whacked Bravo! Interesting how both Jacques and Dynamite have completely different stories. I wonder which one's being more truthful? Personally, I think I buy Jacques' story more than I buy Dynamite's.

From the tales I've read, Dynamite was very well known for being a bully and a big ribber.

"I came out of Vince's office...but it was only later when I thought about what he'd said. He hadn't been there, he hadn't seen it, but he knew I hadn't gone down. In fact, he couldn't believe I hadn't gone down. That was when I thought, "Was I supposed to have done?"
The next morning was the first time I'd seen Davey since the incident with the Rougeaus. He told me he'd called his family in Golborne, in Lancashire, I imagined, to tell them what happened. But what he actually told them was, "Only for me, the Rougeaus would have killed Tommy."
So this went all around our home town, "Thomas got a good hiding and David saved him." He was the hero, I was the piece of s***. He was clean, I was taking drugs, and was probably going to die soon anyway."
"By rights, the Rougeaus should have been fired there and then. All the wrestlers who went on the European tour seemed certain they would be, and I knew wrestlers who'd been fired for less. But the next morning, after I'd had time to think about it, I was having my doubts. In fact, I was convinced that Pat Patterson knew, or at least had an ideas that something was going down. Why else would Jacques jump me right in front of the foreman? And because of what he'd said I wasn't even sure about Vince. To this day I still wonder if he knew I'd been set up."
"But, when I arrived back in New York ready for the start of the next tour, the Rougeaus were still on my mind. It turned out they hadn't been fired, or suspended. They hadn't even been fined. Instead, it was Don Muraco and The Junkyard Dog who were fired for their behaviour on the tour."
"But there was still the matter of myself and the Rougeaus to sort out. About a week after I'd come back from England, Vince called to say he'd arranged a meeting for me, himself, and the Rougeaus. It was in a private room at a hotel in California. I think Vince, and maybe the Rougeaus, were hoping to resolve it by leaving things as they were. But not me. I said to Vince, "I'm leaving f*** all. They can pay for these teeth to be fixed. Then I'll leave it."
Jacques started getting angry and said he wasn't going to pay. But Ray cut in. He told Jacques to "Shut the f*** up," he turned round to me and said, "Get the bill for your teeth from your dentist and let us have it. We'll pay it. That's the end of it." So I did. I got a dentist's bill for about $1,800 and gave it to them. And the Rougeaus paid. But it wasn't my bill. I had my teeth fixed for nothing."
That was the end of Dynamite's side of the story. He mentions their last night at Survivor Series in 88 but that he never wound up getting in the ring with either of the Rougeaus since they were eliminated early. When they got to the back, they had already left the building.

He mentions their last night at Survivor Series in 88 but that he never wound up getting in the ring with either of the Rougeaus since they were eliminated early. It's been several months since I've watched the match, but I'm pretty sure Dynamite was briefly in the ring with the Rougeaus before the Harts eliminated them. Maybe someone can verify.
