Has anyone else picked up this book yet?
I just got it from Amazon today. Thus far, it is proving to be one of the best, if not THE best book I've ever read about a wrestler (or wrestling in general).
It's equal parts insightful, funny, and inspiring, but at the same time, there's an overall sadness to reading it. Mostly because it ends in tragedy (as we all know). To get different perspectives on things from guys who knew him best is staggering and sobering. The way his wife describes picking him up from the airport each time he came home is just gut wrenching to read.
If you were ever a fan, or want some insight into the old school, I highly, highly reccomend this book if you haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

i got it. it is a really good book i would highly recomend it since you don't really hear a lot about brody since he was never in the WWE. i had no idea how big of a draw he was but he could draw 10,000 by himself

I might have to pick that up. Speaking of Brody, there's a lot of his matches on youtube if anyone's interested.

it is a really good book i would highly recomend it since you don't really hear a lot about brody since he was never in the WWE. Brody had a short stint in the WWWF in the 70s but rumor/story goes he got into a huge argument with Gorilla Monsoon. And was never going to return. There was also a rumor in 1985 that he would run-in on the main event at Wrestlemania and ruin it.

Brody's awesome. He's definitely worth seeking out if you've never seen much of him. His work obviously influenced The Berserker, but that was a cartoon version of it. He was a big influence on guys like Mick Foley, Scott Hall (because he said so), and "Loose Cannon"-era Brian Pillman.
Meltzer wrote that the original seeds for Pillman's "Loose Cannon" character were planted at the Stu Hart Tribute show in 1995, when Pillman was hearing Bruce Hart and The Funks reminiscing over wild Bruiser Brody stories in and out of the ring...so Pillman returned to WCW unpredictable in every way (like Brody) and became the wildest wrestler on TV.
Really exciting worker, and had the best big leg drop in history. Brody could catch amazing air before dropping the leg.

There was also a rumor in 1985 that he would run-in on the main event at Wrestlemania and ruin it. I totally forgot about this, is it in the book? I remembered hearing that old-school territory promoters were going to chip in and pay Brody $25,000, $50,000 or something to hop the rail, beat up Mr. T and ruin WrestleMania, but Brody refused. I always figured this story was a tall tale, but if it's true, it should be in there.

the thing I remember most about brody was his matches with abby.
looking at them now on youtube it makes you wonder why they even thought having a ref was a good idea. those matches were the definition of chaos.
