It's been almost ten years since, what in my opinion, has to be the biggest letdown in wrestling history.

I totally disagree. Starrcade 97 was the first wrestling PPV I bothered to watch since Wrestlemania 5 -- ten years before that!
I enjoyed it very much and have enjoyed very few PPVs that much since 97.

It should've been one of the greatest moments in the history of our sport (thanks, Tony), but Nick Patrick & his damned slow-count, the appearance of Bret Hart... UGH! Had it been done right it could've been a great moment, but Nick Patrick's screw-up is one of the reasons WCW is no longer around...

Honestly, Hogan should have just jobbed. This angle was built for 18 months and we get that craptacular blowoff

The complete smurfup of sting-hogan didn't bother you? Btw it was my first as well ;D I didn't think the end was f'ed up. I was less smarky, and had no knowledge of backstage politics at the time. I figured that since the fanbase was split like 50/50 between WCW/nWo that the finish was designed so that WCW fans could claim victory while nWo fans would be motivated to keep watching to see Hollywood's boys avenge the loss. Plus I was thrilled to see Bret Hart in WCW, although it would be like two years later before he was involved in any major angles sadly.

Sting should have went over clean. You don't build an angle for a year and a half then give a piece of shit finish like that. That's pretty much when I started watching raw

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

I still don't get why Nick Patrick didn't fast count the three or why Sting stayed down for three count?
The ending would have made more sense if Sting's shoulders weren't pinned...
as far as i'm concerne Hogan won

Ummmm actually. Trust Vince and Co. to screw up the biggest angle of all time.
Sting v Hogan was cool and all, but it isnt even close to being as HUGE as the purchase of WCW.
That being said Starcade was horrible. I didnt turn to WWE persay then, as that didnt happen untill wcw was threw.

When you say "Starrcade was horrible" you mean the finish to the main event, right?
I thought DDP vs. Hennig was pretty cool.

This whole PPV was a disaster. Heels winning left and right, killing a large chunk of the crowd enthusiasm, knowingly false advertising Raven vs. Benoit (how hard would it have been PRIOR to the event for Raven to be a chickencrap heel and claim he wouldn't be on the card due to an injury?), the multi-million dollar WWF champion who had just been involved in the most talked about finish in history being booked as A REFEREE FOR A BISCHOFF VS. ZBYSZKO MATCH, the botched booking of Hogan vs. Sting, this show was offensive to the viewer on so many levels. An astronomical failure of epic proportions.
Oh, and I almost forgot about that class act Kevin Nash no-showing the PPV.

Faces won the two biggest titles in the company. How is that all the heels winning?
Why am I bothering to defend a ten year old ppv? Why don't I ever realize when I'm wasting my time?

Eddie Guerrero over Dean Malenko
nWo b-team over Steiners & Traylor
Saturn over Benoit
BAGWELL (freakin' BAGWELL) over Luger
I'd include Goldberg over Mongo, but nobody gave a damn about Mongo, and nobody gave a damn about Goldberg yet.
That's the first four matches out of five with the heels winning.

I liked the event, even with the botched main event finish with Sting/Hogan.

It doesn't take a genius to keep the booking of face/heel wins more balanced than a 1:4 or 0:5 ratio in the first half of the card.
