And I have never felt so bad for Tony Schiavone. His color men are Mark Madden and Stevie Ray. Madden is trying so hard to be the 21st Century version of Bobby Heenan and it's failing a lot more the succeeding. Stevie has threatened already to beat up Vampiro and called the Camel Clutch "A version of the Boston Crab".
If that wasn't bad enough, during a tag match between The Perfect Event and Lt. Loco and Cpl. Cajun (the third straight NBT match), we had this exchange:
Madden: Chavito. Stevie: What do you mean he has chubby toes? Madden: What? Stevie: You just said he has chubby toes! Madden: I said Chavito! Stevie: Oh.
Then during a Mike Awesome vs Vampiro match, they brawled into the crowd. Vampiro grabbed a man's cane and hit Mike with it. A fan who looked no older then 20 jumped about a foot in the air and headbutted Awesome. Madden commented that it was the old guy getting revenge for his cane being stolen. Yep.
On a side note General Rection just gave a promo about how he left a year ago and came back to win the U.S. Title from Lance Storm. WHAT? I don't know if he left or what, but I know MIA was around for at least 2 months before Storm's debut.

Wrong forum, but I found their exchanges very funny actually. It's not like Ray was going out there and trying to be commentator of the year or anything.

A lot of people rib Tony Schiavone about his biggest night in wrestling history phrases every week. But the fact is that he was a good commentator. Especially before WCW got as big as it did. But how would one feel if you were the lead announcer on the top program of the most successful wrestling organization in the world as WCW was in 1996 and 1997 only to several years later being pummeled in the ratings by your main competitor the WWE. What kind of feeling would that have to be? I can only imagine what Tony must have been thinking by 2000.

I think that's why it's not flooded with ECW and WCW stuff from that time period.

I finished the ppv, and I'm gonna point out some of the positive things about it. *gasp*
-The opening three way tag match (Jindrak/O'Haire-Kidman/Mysterio-Boogie Knights) was really good. Yes the announcers over sold it, but even without the exaggeration it was one of the best matches in WCW in the year 2000 that didn't feature 3 Count, the Jung Dragons or Booker T.
-Speaking of Booker T, both him and Scott Steiner brought their A-game to the WCW World Title Match. I never like seeing DQ's in World Title matches, but the match was pretty good despite it.
-I don't believe I'm gonna write this, but even The Wall had a good match. Yeah it was a Hardcore match (against Reno), which provides enough shortcuts to cover up bad wrestling, but you still need a little skill to make them look good.
-The crowd. I now fully understand why Bischoff wanted to tape tv out of Vegas all the time if he bought the company. This crowd made everything seem important and never sat on their hands and shut up throughout the night. It also looked like it was sold out, which, except for international tours, didn't happen very much in 2000 WCW.
I also found out the event was on my 16th birthday. It was loads better then Halloween Havoc 1995 (which took place on my 11th birthday) and my 16th year of existence was slightly better then my 11th. Coincidence?

This is something I agree with too... even in its dying days, WCW had a great deal of talented wrestlers working for them. They put on some great matches. The problem was in the way it was booked, the announcers as you mentioned, the production problems, etc. Unfortunately, those were major enough problems to cancel out the talented roster.
