ROH has a sale going on this weekend with tons of DVDs at $10 each, including the Summer of Punk shows and a lot of 2006 shows including Glory By Honor V Night 2.

Glory By Honor V, Night 2 might just be the best wrestling show of the past five years.

Glory By Honor V, Night 2 might just be the best wrestling show of the past five years. And yet Glory by Honor VI Night 2 could potentially be better.

I had some friends asking me where to start on ROH too. The way I got into it: get the recent stuff first (good starting point I think would be the 2 PPV's, since those are made with the intention of atrracting new fans), then get some old classic stuff like the other posters have mentioned.
I'd think that the quicker you know about the current roster and get to know them, the more likely you are to keep up. I think the biggest hurdle at the start is not knowing the characters / gimmicks and at first sight them being "generic". Nothing could be further from the truth though.
My advice: keep it recent at first, "Driven" and "race to the top" are very good starting points, and being "current" right from the get go also makes talking about it here more easy. ;-)
Hope this helps

When it comes out, Death Before Dishonor V (Both Nights) are going to be worth picking up.

I'd recommend starting with some of this year's offerings. Supercard of Honor II has the excellent Jimmy Jacobs vs. BJ Whitmer cage match, as well as the criminally underrated Jack Evans & Naruki Doi vs. Davey Richards & Rocky Romero. The rest of the card, with a pair of squashes, a solid Japanese guest main event, and Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries, is pretty damn good. Good Times, Great Memories is an all-around solid card. It doesn't have the full roster depth of this year's ROH, but it does have excellent matches all over the place with Jack Evans vs. Roderick Strong, Austin Aries vs. Rocky Romero, and Takeshi Morishima vs. SHINGO. Oh, and the Briscoes vs. the Murder City Machine Guns; I may be one of five people who isn't crazy about that match, which indicates that you will probably like it. A recent and oddball choice for a first show would be Race to the Top Tournament Night 2. The second night of the tournament gives you a full three rounds of a tourney, which gives the show a nice self-contained feel. The two other matches - a six-man filled with midcarders and a hugely entertaining eight-man tag - are great additions that showcase a decent portion of the roster. This is the sort of top-to-bottom quality show with the sort of story that can immediately involve a new viewer in the characters. I agree with two out of three. I think RTTTT, Night 2 is one of the better top to bottom shows of the year (and it has this nice little awesome match of Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mike Quackenbush on it). Now for Briscoes vs. Machine Guns I really disagree in that I believe it was an excellent match when considering the back story (and Shelley's promo before the match was amazing "We're going to murder you, you can't be champions if you're dead."). I can however agree with the match starting off really slowly. But once it gets kicked off it (pardon the pun) Total Nonstop Action. Hey, I admitted that I'm in the minority on that match; I qualify my opinion by mentioning that the vast majority thinks it's a superb tag match. I just find it too damn long for a match that's spot-and-build oriented rather than story oriented. I'll also strengthen my recommendation of RTTTN2 by saying that the entrances to the opener, by themselves, dispel any notion that ROH is filled with faceless generic no-names. Chris Hero's full entourage entrance is one of the greatest things in wrestling.

The first show I would watch if I was you and I was following my own advice would be Manhatten Mayham.

So, to no longer be a ROH virgin, do you need to let Aries or Danielson nail you?
