In my continuing quest to see the best indy wrestling has to offer, I've now chosen IWA MS to be the next fed I start following. I've done some research, and have come up with these DVDs so far:
*all the Ted Petty Invitational tournaments *When Hero Met Punk
What else should I add to my list? I'm not really a fan of all the Death Match stuff, keep in mind.

I would also like to know this. After seeing the card for the TPI 2007, it'll definitely be a purchase for me this Christmas.
Is When Hero Met Punk the show where they had that 90 minute match? If so, that's a must-buy for me too.

I love this board. Sometimes I think ya'll are reading my mind. I've been doing a bit of research on IWA:MS in hopes of getting into it and was going to ask for suggestions soon.
So any help given here would be helping me, too.

TPI 2004 is probably the best set of IWA-MS DVDs ever produced, and none of the subsequent editions of the TPI have ever surpassed '04 IMO.

I forget the name of the shows, but IWA-MS ran cards featuring an incredible (non-deathmatch, but very hard-hitting) matches between Necro Butcher and Samoa Joe, as well as Necro vs Low-Ki.

Comes running over at full speed, don't worry I'm here
Anyways off the top of my head. We're No Joke (4/1/06) is one of their best shows and has the first Necro/Ki match, a great opener between Deranged/Brain Damage and Team Underground a phenomenal 10 man elimination ladder match and a good Hero/Milan Collection AT match
All of the TPI's are great, the best being '04 (which has everyone punk, dragon, styles, indy wise you name it they were there), TPI '06 night 2 was one of the best nights of wrestling last year in any promotion (tournament wise and story line wise) including the wwe and tna, and '07 (the first tpi I saw live) was also good w/ a great hero/kingston match night 2 and a great night of wrestling from Quack.
Other good shows (non-death match wise) are Morris Mayhem I (3/2/02) which has Punk vs. Guerrero
Phenomenal Invasion (9/15/04) is good it has Shelley vs. Claudio, Styles vs. Sydal 2 out of 3 falls, Dragon vs. Hero and Punk vs. Petey Williams
Simply the best 5 is fantastic it has Aries vs. Michael Shane, styles/sydal, Jerry lynn/delirious and bboy vs. hero
I really like Edge of insanity '06, the elimination tag match is fantastic and watching bull pain beat jimmy jacobs puts a smile on my face
This years Candido Cup is very good and the recent Sellersburg shows are really good, but have more of an emphasis on hardcore
From '04 to mid '06 IWA-MS shows were basically a who's who of indy wrestling as all the best made there way through there

I'll warn you like I warn everyone getting IWA-MS shows. From '04 on most shows (outside of all the TPI's, We're No joke, and the KOTDM's) sadly have a crowd of 40-150 so it will look empty and there are no guard rails, but the shows are still really good.
Some other suggestions show wise are the '04 Strong Style Tournament. This show is the best of the Strong Style Tournaments and one of the best shows of '04 (behind TPI). The tourney has Aries, Whitmer, Strong, Homicide, Eddie Kingston, BBoy, Super Dragon, Samoa Joe (first round match between Joe/Aries is fantastic), also on the card but not in the tourney are Punk, Chris Candido, Abyss, Sydal, Nigel McGuiness and Claudio
The Punk/Hero fued from '02 to '04 is one of the best indy fueds ever. But during that time most IWA-MS shows have a lot of hardcore matches. The 2nd Anniversary of the House of Hardcore (2-9-02) is a great overall show with a great hero/punk tables and ladder match
Other good shows are Spirit of '76 and Ultra Stlyes Clash weekend (Ultra Styles Clash has the Circus Deathmatch on it, but the shows is really good)

Their feud does sound like th stuff of dreams. What's the gimmick behind the Strong Style tournaments? And small crowds don't bother me at all. It actually can make for a cool atmosphere, like in some of the smaller Chikara venues.

The strong style tournament is about stiffness and I guess Fighting Spirit type wrestling. In last year's RSST, in the first round Drake Younger and CJ Otis forearmed/stiffed each other to no end (they tore down the house) and in the second round Necro and Drake chopped the crap out of each other. In the '05 RSST Necro punched the crap out of Eddie Kingston's face

I'm surprised no one mentioned Something to Prove. Samoa Joe/Necro Butcher is something that needs to be seen, and Punk on commentary is amazing.
Even though you don't like death matches too much, I've heard the King of the Death Matches 2003 is supposed to be amazing too.

What's the gimmick of the TPI tournament? Could you liken to things I might've seen in the WWF, WCW, or (classic) ECW?
(i.e. It's like watching cruiserweights wrestle, it's like watching matches in the style of Dean Malenko vs Bret Hart, etc)

So I would assume it's the latter more than the former. Get May 8th 2004. Petey Williams vs. Nigel McGuiness in another of their classic encounters. Angel Williams & ODB in a women's match. Homicide vs. Chris Hero. Not a bad show. I was there and can pretty much be seen the entire night. (We were opposite the hard camera.) Oh, and Bobby Heenan was there. Dunno if they showed that angle, but he did a wonderful speech about going from MSG two months ago (WM XX) to Lincoln Center "because this is where you get started in the business".

Its emphasis is way more technical wrestling than anything.
